Crap!Mia had a moment of panic. She didn’twantto run around the small dome house she and Sev were sharing completely naked! For one thing, Sev wasn’t really her husband—he was her partner—and it was going to do serious damage to their professional relationship if she had to show off her body to him constantly.
For another thing, it was going to becold.She’d always been a cold-natured person and she had thin blood from living in the South for so long—she needed something to keep her warm.
Sev, apparently, was thinking the same thing.
“I’m afraid I can’t require my wife to be constantly naked,” he said, frowning. “She gets cold easily and could get sick from too much exposure.”
There was some rustling and whispered conversation from behind them.
“All right—duly noted. Such things will be taken into consideration,” the Elder said at last. “Tonight you willbothbe provided with appropriate clothing for sleeping and your private time together.”
Well,thatwas a relief, Mia thought. At least she didn’t have to run around buck-naked in front of her partner!
Although you didn’t mind beingmostlynaked last night…or letting him stroke your breasts and tug your nipples,whispered a snarky little voice in her head.
Mia pushed it quickly away. That had been a mistake—a one-time occurrence. She and Sev had decided they weren’t going to go there anymore. They weren’t—
“And now, let us continue with the video review,” the deep-voiced Elder said. “Please direct your attention to the screen again where the events we are calling into question are being displayed.”
Mia looked back at the screen and got a nasty shock when she saw an image of herself and Sev in the kitchen. She’d known they were being observed and recorded but knowing you were being spied on and actuallyseeingevidence of it were two different things.
Sev was at the stove, clearly cooking their breakfast while Mia herself was cutting fruit. After a moment, she shot a cautious look at her partner’s broad back and then went over to the cabinet to call for a glass.
Mia watched as her image took the glass and—shooting another look at Sev—filled it from the middle brass tube at the kitchen counter. She then drank half the contents before Sev—with two loaded plates in his hands—came to the table.
Watching herself be so sneaky made Mia want to curl up in shame. She hadn’t had any idea she looked like that—so devious and dishonest! Why had she been so desperate to get another taste of the Nutrient Crème even though she knew her partner was worried about her?
She didn’t have any answers and there was nothing to do but keep watching.
There was no sound to the images but she watched as Sev asked what she was drinking—motioning to the cup. Mia handed it to him and he smelled it. The two of them exchanged heated words and he went and poured the remains of the smoothie down the drain.
More heated words—clearly shouting thought there was no sound—and Mia got up and snatched the cup from him. Taking it back to the middle tube, she filled it again and drank it defiantly while he glared at her.
“Stop!” the deep-voiced Elder commanded. “Brother Severith, would you care to tell us what this exchange was all about?”
Sev cleared his throat uncomfortably and turned to face the Elders. Mia felt bad all over again—shewas the one who had put him in the position for having to answer for her actions.
“It was about the fact that Mia seems to be addicted to that damn Nutrient Crème drink you’re pushing on her and I don’t want her drinking it!”
Addicted?Mia glared up at him, her shame washed away by irritation. Was he serious? Were they having an intervention here or what?
“All right, leaving aside the fact that the Nutrient Crème is completely benign and actually extremely beneficial—evennecessary—to the health of all the females who live here in the PPP Dome, the Council has a question for you,” the Elder told him. “Why, after your wife so clearly disobeyed you, did you not punish her at once? Why did you not turn her over your knee and give her a thorough spanking for such a blatant display of defiance?”
Mia felt her cheeks getting hot and clenched her hands into fists. They were talking about her like she was a naughty child! Criticizing her behavior to Sev and she wasn’t even allowed to say anything—to explain herself or fight back!
Also, this was clearlyreallyputting Sev on the spot. He didn’t seem to know what to say.
“I…she…I was going to punish her later, after First Meal—I mean breakfast,” he said at last. “But then Brother Jonash came to the door to get us for this meeting and the Induction Ceremony.”
“I see…let us confer.” There was hushed murmuring from the Elders and after a moment, the one with the deep voice spoke again. “Very well, the Council of Elders accepts your explanation. But please know in the future that we expect this kind of open defiance to be curbedimmediately. If your wife sasses or disrespects you in any way, we expect to see you taking immediate action to correct her. And we’ll be watching you—your wife’s actions and the way she speaks to males who are not her husband have earned you both constant surveillance. Is that understood?”
“Understood,” Sev said harshly and gave Mia a glance that wasn’t hard to read.You’d better be fucking careful from now on!it clearly said.
Mia just stared back, giving him her best poker face. She still didn’t know whether to be frightened or pissed off at the idea of Sev taking her over his knee and spanking her, the way Enoc had spanked Lisha. Just picturing it made her heart pound and her palms feel sweaty. She squeezed her thighs together, wishing desperately that this damn meeting wasoveralready!
But the Elders clearly had more to say.
“This Council acknowledges that the two of you are new to the PPP and not completely knowledgeable of our ways,” the Elder said. “Therefore, this next part of this Judgment Session will consist of a two-part training. Once more, I direct your attention to the screen for a helpful Instructional vid on training your wife.”
