“I just…kind of feel like Cinderella.”

“You two do make a cute couple,” Emma smiled. “Make sure you leave with your shoes.”

“Think I can manage,” Mulberry grinned.

“Can you ask Nick if he has any single friends?” Emma asked.

“I’ll see what I can do,” Mulberry grinned.

“Maybe with older sisters?” Aunt Cassie grinned.

“Dress time!” Her mom clapped her hands together.

“Okay!” Mulberry stood.

Her mom and aunt beamed at her, and she hugged them tightly.

“Hey, me too!” Emma nudged beside her. “Can you bring me a swag bag back?”

Aunt Cassie laughed.

“What? The rumour is they’re going to be epic. Dad received an invite but declined.”

“You could have taken it, Emma,” Aunt Cassie said.

Mulberry took the gown off the hook on the bathroom door, carefully unzipping the bag it was in.

The butterflies in her stomach flapped around, but she smiled.

This felt normal, getting ready to go out on a date.

Even if it was a fake date with someone, she wouldn’t choose to date.

“Now that I agreed to take the role, I have to study. It’s fine. I’m happy to spend a quiet night in with my elders.”

“Hey! Watch it, or this elder might insist your part get bigger,” Grace said, her eyes twinkling.

“Yeah, no Christmas presents for you,” Aunt Cassie said.

“Help, please” Mulberry stepped into the sparkly blue gown. Her mom and aunt came over to help guide the dress up, and Emma steadied it from behind.

“But you deserve this, Mulberry, and I hope Nick makes you happy.”

“Thanks, Emma.”

“Mulberry! You’re gorgeous. I need a photo before everyone else gets one!” Aunt Cassie grabbed her phone.

A knock sounded, breaking the happy moment.

Mulberry glanced at her mom, who reached for the tablet on the dresser. Even though she knew Cynthia’s house was being monitored, she couldn’t relax.

“It’s Dylan O’riley,” Grace said, showing Mulberry the screen.

“Wonder why he’s here” Emma went with Grace to the door.

Mulberry turned in the mirror, loving the silky bodice of the dress and how it clung to her.

Her shoulders were bare, and wearing her hair down was the right choice.
