She laced her fingers in his, her eyes wide.

“Do you need a ride home? I can call you a cab?”

Her face fluttered with disappointment, then she shook her head. “No, I’m okay to drive home. It was a fun scene, thank you.”

“You’re most welcome.” Nick led her to the door and kissed her cheek chastely. She smiled and held the door open.

The sounds of Club Bandit, laughter, a scream of delight, and the low bass pumping out of the speakers filtered down the hallway.

He needed tonight’s play.

Still unsettled from that last job with Team Stealth, he hit Club Bandit as soon as he caught up on sleep. He’d played with this submissive before, so he’d made a beeline for her when he saw her in the club.

She gave him precisely what he wanted tonight: no expectations or commitments, and he lost himself in the scene as he tied her to a cross and gave her a good flogging before taking her back to the room.

It was fine. The play, the sex, all fine.

It served the purpose of letting his brain turn off for a few hours.

The woman smiled at him again, gave a little wave and walked down the hallway, passing a Dom with a sub on a leash coming out from one of the theme rooms.

Nick watched to ensure she had exited the building because that was what he thought he should do.

The gentlemanly thing would be to actually escort the woman to her car.

Closing the door, Nick sighed, his phone buzzed on the nightstand table, and he ignored it.

He washed his hands and face with cold water in the bathroom.

Picking up his toy bag, he slipped on his shoes and went down the hallway into the main gold-textured space that was Club Bandit making a beeline for the bar. The place was jammed with people, the background music drowned out by the crowd’s murmurs, the occasional sigh of pleasure, the sharp inhale of pain and the whistling of leather through the air.

Standing at the side of the bar, Nick glanced to the stage where Zee, the owner of the Club Bandit, was doing some kind of demo with his submissive, Ella. From this angle, it was hard to see what was happening in the play spaces through the crowd. The seating area was packed where lots of subs were kneeling on cushions or being used as footstools, Doms talking to each other, and some pairs cozying up on the small intimate couches.

Taking it all in made him long for an intimacy he usually ran from.

“Hey, Erik. You bartending now?” Nick leaned against the honey-coloured bar.

Ever since the founding members voted to open the club up occasionally to the public, there was no alcohol in Club Bandit, but it was stacked with snacks, every flavour of coffee pod, teas, and sports drinks.

“Nah, just stepped out from the back. Didn’t I see you with Karina?” Erik raised an eyebrow, the bruise Quinn left him with still fresh and visible along his jaw.

“So that’s her name,” Nick grinned. “You know me, pick them up and leave them as fast as I find them.”

Erik shook his head. “You’re kidding yourself. You want a permanent sub.”

“Yeah? What gives you that impression?” Nick raised his eyebrow. Erik wasn’t usually so wordy.

“How quick you race through your scenes, as if you’re afraid the girl will stay. Its obvious commitment scares you because you want it so much.”

“Maybe I just like the sex,” Nick grinned.

Erik rolled his eyes, rapping the bar with his knuckles. “Sure, keep lying to yourself.”

“Like you should be lecturing me about commitment?”

Erik had one serious long-term relationship that ended before they signed on with Axis Management. And there was a sister of a friend he dated last summer, but since then Nick hadn’t seen him with anyone. He spent his time at Club Bandit behind the scenes, helping Zee with security.

Erik’s smile softened the hard angle of his face, almost making him look friendly.
