Her mom glanced at her, giving her the thumbs-up sign, the sunlight catching the red in her hair.

Mulberry grinned, returning the sign but sighed.

Her mom hadn’t wanted her to come, but this was Grace Stevens’s return to T.V. Drama, and Mulberry loved Vancouver. She didn’t want to be left behind this time.

Her mom loved it too, and when she found out the series was filming here, she wanted to buy a house, but they didn’t want the media to know. So Aunt Cassie helped her mom buy the house, and they’ve lived there ever since.

Mulberry loved living with her aunt and mom and the house in Tsawwassen. She had ocean views from her bedroom window. They needed to find their own sanctuary after what had happened. Even though it was far from L.A., she loved the quiet and the solitude the new home gave her.

Since the kidnapping- Mulberry swallowed hard thinking about it-her mom had been super protective of her.

Her mom only took one role in a movie before this series, and Mulberry knew it was because of her, because of what happened.

When her mom signed on for this family drama series, she had to come out to watch her film because her mom had always supported her.

And it felt like a big deal, her mom’s return to work.

Not that she planned on showing up on set every day.

Being around crowds spiked her anxiety, and she loved their new house and was content to spend her days in the peaceful setting they’d made, painting and helping her aunt with her pottery business. It felt like she was finally putting the pieces back together. She’d even started looking at University courses for the next semester.

Cool hands covered her eyes. Mulberry stiffened, her heart in her throat.

“Guess who!” A high pitch voice rang out that she’d know anywhere.

“Emma Pierce,” Mulberry removed her best friend’s hands from her eyes.

Emma grinned, showing perfectly straight and white teeth, flipping her long straight black bangs out of her eyes.

“Want to go to the trailer for privacy?” Emma tugged on her arm.

“Okay, fine I’m cold.” Mulberry pulled her sweater tighter over her shoulders.

Ever since she’d been taken, she seemed to get cold quickly, the constant fear she lived with making her skin shiver at the slightest temperature change.

“Come on!” Emma touched her shoulder. “You know they’re not going to stop after this break until the evening, and your mom knows where you are.”

Mulberry looked across the set to see Grace talking to one of the assistants. Mulberry waved, catching her attention, then pointed at Emma. Her mom nodded enthusiastically and held up her phone.

Mulberry groaned but took out her phone. Going to the trailer with Emma, she texted.

“Okay fine,” Mulberry said.

“Ya!” Emma grabbed her hand, pulling her up and giggling. Mulberry ran through the lot to the row of trailers. Emma pulled open the door of her dad’s, ushering Mulberry inside.

“Good. Nice to be alone. Want some weed?” Emma flopped down on a couch.

“You’re awful. No thanks.”

“You’re always so boring” Emma stuck her tongue out at her.

Mulberry blushed; if only her friend knew her secrets.

“I thought you wouldn’t make it with all your studying. Talk about boring,” Mulberry said.

“Dad wants me to read on set for a background role. I only agreed because it’s your mom.”

“She is persuasive that way,” Mulberry grinned. She loved her mama, but the woman got her way.
