“Maddie, let me in.” I try the door and am relieved it’s not locked. Opening it, I immediately notice it’s empty, and she’s not inside. “Mads?”

“What did you do, Liam?” Sophie screams at me. I spin around and am confused as hell by the fury in her eyes.

I blink. “What?”

“Where is my sister?” she screams again.

“I have no idea what you’re talking about…” I hold up my hands to settle her down, but it only enrages her further as she takes another step toward me.

“She’s gone!” Sophie waves something in her hand.

“What do you mean?” She’s making no goddamn sense.

Mason comes to Sophie’s side, holding her back. “She left a note saying she had to get out of here and not to go looking for her.”

What? There’s no way. Maddie’s pissed, yes. But she wouldn’t just leave.

“Is her car here? Did she take anything?” I ask, looking around. This can’t be happening. “Did you call her?”

“No, it’s gone. It looks like she took one of my suitcases from the closet, but she must’ve left early. I didn’t hear anything.” Sophie’s frantic voice turns to fear. “And yes, I called her twenty times! Straight to voicemail.”

Victoria comes waltzing into the kitchen with an overly sweet smile. Her hair is still wet, and she’s wearing a tight shirt that shows off her baby bump. There’s no doubt she really is pregnant, and she seems bigger than I’d expect for her first trimester, but after showing me the ultrasound photo of two sacs and heartbeats, there’s no doubt she’s carrying twins. However, I still don’t think they’re mine. She could’ve slept with dozens of men before or after the week she came here.

“Oh no, did Maddie go somewhere? I was hoping to say goodbye before we left.” Victoria flashes a concerned look, but I’m not buying it. She’s not a bit worried.

Sophie narrows her gaze at me, and I know she’s about to blow. “You better explain what the hell is going on!”

Mason shoots her a look, furrowing his brows as if he’s silently telling her to calm down. If Sophie suspects we’ve been sneaking around, then she might doubt the validity of Victoria’s and my marriage. The amount of fires I have to put out keeps growing, and I’m not sure I’ll get out alive.

“Soph, I’ll take care of it.” I grab Victoria’s elbow and walk us into the living room.

“What the hell did you do to Maddie? Where is she?” I hiss, making it clear that I’m not in the mood for her games.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about, sweetie. But we better get going so we don’t keep the pilot waiting.”

Victoria told me last night we’d be taking her family’s private jet back to Vegas, which is where I intend to fully show my wrath at how angry I am right now.

She pats my chest again, smirking. She takes a step around me, but I pull her back.

“Where the fuck is she, Victoria?” I hold her tighter. “I swear to God, you better start explaining your fucking self right now.”

She narrows her gaze and steps closer. Then the corner of her lips tilts up just the slightest, fury burning in her eyes. “I warned you to behave, hubby. But you didn’t listen.”
