I quickly kicked them off and pulled off my socks, tossing them into the laundry basket. I covered her up with the blanket, adding two more from the closet. She would sleep for a while—hopefully long enough for me to clean up the bathroom and the bottom of the shower.

I set my boots on the porch to dry as I called Christian.

“Yeah?” he asked.

“She had a fucking anxiety attack,” I told him. He cursed. “Judging by the state of the shower curtain, I’m also guessing that she had a flashback. I don’t know what the fuck happened at that lunch but get Axel to find out. She’s unconscious. I’m letting her rest. No sense in bringing her out of it right now.”

“Is she okay?” he asked. Worry tinged his tone, and I knew it took everything in him to trust me to take care of her and not run home to deal with this himself.

I shrugged. “Physically, yes. But I don’t know where she’s going to be mentally when she wakes up.”

“Let me know when she wakes up.” He heaved a breath. “I fucking hate this shit. I’ll talk to Axel, and I’ll let you know whatever I find out.”

I hung up and walked to her car, shutting the door. A silver sports car pulled up to the house, Ally’s dad behind the wheel. I crossed my arms over my chest, staring him down as he slid out of the car with Ally’s purse in his hands.

“I came to give this back to Ally,” he told me, seeming slightly intimidated by me.

Good. He fucking should have been. Because I was feeling goddamn volatile.

I walked down the porch and took her purse from him, opening it up to look inside. Her anxiety medication caught my eye. Fuck. We needed to make sure she had some at home and some with her at all times. Her phone was also at the bottom of the purse.

A home phone was next on my list of things to get.

“What the fuck happened?” I snarled at him as I shouldered the bag.

“Her mother showed up.” I took a threatening step toward him. I had no fucking idea what game he was playing, but he was swimming in dangerous waters for fucking with my woman. He was nothing more than a tiny little fish, and I was the goddamn Megalodon. He held his hands up. “I swear, I haven’t talked to her mother in weeks. I have no idea how she found out where we were at.” I took a step back, clenching my jaw. “Grace basically ended up telling everyone in that damn restaurant about the rape.”

I couldn’t stop myself, and even if I could, I probably wouldn’t have.

I punched him in the face, sending him sprawling on his back in the dirt. I kneeled down and gripped his shirt in my fist, yanking him up so I could glare down at him. “A smart man would know that she probably has a fucking tracking device on you.” He swallowed thickly, blood trickling down from his lips onto his neck. “Pretty goddamn convenient that she only pops up when you have a fucking meeting with Ally. Solve that shit and stay the fuck away from my woman until your shit with her bitch of a mother is solved.”

I shoved him back onto the ground and stormed inside of the house, slamming the front door shut behind me. I locked it and set the alarm.

He may not have been at fault, but as a businessman, he should have known better, and he should have known what people were capable of if they were looking for information. And in this instance, I knew his wife was looking for a way to hurt Ally.

Fuck with Ally, and you’ve fucked with me.

ATTORNEY

Ally

I nervously applied a light layer of foundation to my face. Today, I was finally meeting with the attorney Julian had hired for me. It was kind of sudden. He had reached out two nights ago asking if I could come in to see him today.

So, here I was, a week after my flashback and anxiety attack in the shower, getting ready to see my attorney for the very first time.

“Babe, you know one of us can take off and go with you,” Caiden spoke up as he appeared in the doorway of our bathroom.

I shook my head. “I can do this,” I assured him. He frowned. I sighed as I turned to face him. “Caiden, trust me,” I begged him. “If something happens or if I get overwhelmed, I promise that I’ll call one of you,” I assured him.

He arched an eyebrow at me. “Will you?” he asked. A frown pulled at my own lips. He’d been seriously worried about me ever since he found me unconscious in the shower. “You didn’t last time, Ally.”
