I was a stress eater. I ate when I was depressed. Which explained my size twelve—almost size fourteen—ass. I’d gained about thirty-five pounds over the last year of school. Yet, Bain looked at me like I was still the same size as in high school.

Spoiler alert: I definitely wasn’t.

I groaned, loving the taste of his center.

“So good,” I whispered almost to myself.

Bain heard me, though.

He came up behind where I was standing, hip to the counter and pressed himself against me.

Leaning down, he whispered into my ear.

“If you want me to take you back to my room and fuck you,” he rasped against my ear. “Then, by all means, keep doing what you’re doing. But if you want to hear what Braxton has to say,” he tilted my head toward him and licked a drop of syrup off my lips. “Then I suggest you finish those pancakes very quietly.”

I felt things inside of me clench.

Things that only clenched when Bain was around.

My panties were instantly wet, and it didn’t matter that his parents, his brother—who also happened to be my ex-husband—and the sheriff were standing in his front room.

Nope.

I wanted him.

I wanted him more than I wanted to finish the pancakes. Which was saying something.

I turned around and looked Bain dead in the eye and said, “Are you trying to kill me?”

Bain had a beautiful smile. One with which he was gracing me right that very moment.

God, it was sexy.

Even worse, I wanted him but couldn’t have him.

Well, for that particular moment.

I could have him.

I could have him, and I could be happy with him. He’d already offered himself to me. I only had to hold on when my days were darker.

“Jesus, you do realize that I’m here, right?” Braxton grumbled.

I was impervious to Braxton’s grumbling and bitching. I’d been ignoring him for so long that it was almost automatic for me.

Apparently, so had Bain.

Because he didn’t take his beautiful green eyes off of me until I sighed and said, “I’ll try to be good.”

Bain winked. That made my imagination flame.

Holy hell, the man had game.

He didn’t even know it.

Or, maybe he did and just wanted to see me squirm.

Whatever the cause, I was squirming against him, and he wasn’t even trying to hide the fact that he liked it. His erection was making me hot, and I’d only just had him.

Well… a part of him. His fingers, to be specific.

After explaining everything, again, to Hilary and Holt, Bain had forced them to stay the night. We’d been sleeping in until about an hour ago—right when Bain was getting to the good stuff with his mouth once again between my legs—when Sheriff Sunny had called to tell Bain he’d finally located his brother.

Which led us to finishing without Bain getting his just desserts and me feeling a wee bit bad that I’d gotten mine.

What we hadn’t expected after we’d come out here and started breakfast was for Braxton to show up with Sunny.

“What is he doing here?” Holt asked carefully.

“Dad!” Braxton whined. “Why wouldn’t I be allowed to come to my brother’s home?”

“Because you hired an assassin to kill his girlfriend,” Holt replied.

“Actually,” Braxton said, “that would be my now ex-girlfriend slash baby mama to be.”

We all blinked.

Then we said, in unison, “What?”

“Start from the beginning,” Sunny glared.

Just as Sunny said that there was a throaty sound of multiple motorcycles pulling up outside.

Before Braxton could move out of the way of the door, it was slammed open straight into his back.

Then, all the men of Bain’s motorcycle club came barreling into the door.

First Etienne, the Cajun man that had the most delectable accent and brightest blue eyes I’d ever seen. I’d met him a few days ago when Matilda and I had discussed with him our hopes and dreams for our veterinary practice.

Etienne gave Braxton a dark, glowering look as he passed.

The next in the door was Wake, who was so scary that I took an inadvertent step in Bain’s direction.

He caught my hip and squeezed, reassuring me that I was safe with him.

I knew that. But still, looking at Wake with his intimidating stare? He was by far the most frightening of the bunch. And his glower felt like it was staring straight into my soul when he looked directly at me.

Which he did in that second.

I smiled weakly at him and his scowl softened.

But before we could really connect, he was all but shoved out of the way by Kyle “KD” Davis. He was the former baseball player that I hadn’t met officially yet. What I did know about him was that he was once a professional baseball player. Then something had happened, he’d gotten kicked out of the major league and then shortly after, he was sent to jail for something I couldn’t remember the details of.

He was followed through the door by Aodhan, the Scottish giant. Then Cassius, the mysterious, dark, and brooding one of the group that I’d met, but he’d said all of two words to me.
