“Are you okay?” Regret flickered in his eyes before he collapsed on top of my chest and buried his face in the crook of my neck. “This was only your second time and I lost my self control. I shouldn’t have-”

I pressed my index finger to his lips, silencing the rest of his unnecessary apology.

“I’m better than okay, Galen.”

How could I not be? He claimed me. Granted it was in the throes of passion as opposed to a declaration made in front of the pack, but there was no denying the connection between us. I felt a change in the energy of the pack bond.

Besides, a formal announcement before all of the pack members didn’t mean anything - a lesson I’d learned the hard way when Maddox broke off our engagement.

“Do you feel that?” Galen rolled off me onto his side, took my hand in his and placed it over his heart. “My heart beats like that whenever I’m around you.”

“I think your rapid heartbeat has more to do with what we were just doing than it does me.” I teased, tracing his well defined pectoral with my fingertips.

“You have know idea the hold you have over me.” He wrapped his arm around my waist and pulled me tight against him, or bodies molded together. “I just wish my father lived long enough for me to tell him that I found my mate.”

“He knows, Galen.” I rested my face on the pillow beside his and brushed my lips against his in a gentle kiss. “I’m pretty sure he knew how we felt about each other before either of us did.”

“Yeah.” A somber laugh escaped him. “I suppose he did. He called me out on my feelings for you right from the beginning, but I was too stubborn to hear it. If I’d listened to him sooner...”

“Don’t do that. Between the Northwood pack, the demon’s curse on the witches and their attacks on the town, it’s a wonder we made it this far.” I draped my leg over his hip and hooked my heel around the back of his thigh, entwining our bodies together. “I mean, our timing couldn’t have been worse.”

“I don’t know. I think we met exactly when we were supposed to. If our paths crossed even a week earlier, the outcome would have been very different.”

Galen licked and nipped my neck and the warmth of his breath sent shivers down my spine.

“You would have hated me. Begged me to take you back to Maddox and the Northwood pack.”

“It must be fate then.” I titled my head to the side, granting him better access to sensitive skin along my neck.

“There’s not a doubt in my mind.”

Galen’s hands roamed my body, fanning the flames of my desire. Evidence of his grew while we cuddled and was pressed against my stomach. He rolled onto his back, pulled me on top of him and guided my hips as he sheathed himself inside me.

“You are my fate, Talia.” Galen rocked his hips and drove himself deeper within me until we were up and over the precipice climaxing together.

I prayed to any gods that may have been listening that Galen was right and were fated because there was only one mark on my arm.

And that belonged to a demon.
