Alfred. Alfred truly was back and was hunting me. I was in heat. What if he knew?

The thought frightened me more than I cared to admit.

I was powerful. I had strong magic and was able to use the magic of others as well to aid me. Using everyone's magic, I was able to send him to hell.

It had just been a stroke of misfortune and perhaps fate that had broken him out again.

Unknown: I will kill your mates. I will kill your employees. You can’t hide from me. Not anymore. I’m coming for you.

A shiver worked up my spine and for a moment, I swore I could feel his monstrous breath on the back of my neck.

“Alex!”

I snapped my head up, my eyes wide.

Anne and Sylvia were standing in front of me, both of them staring at me with concern.

“What is it?” Anne whispered, her eyes darting to my phone.

I couldn’t lie to them.

I took a deep breath and released it, steeling my nerves. “Alfred,” I whispered. “He texted me.”

“Fuck,” Anne hissed.

Sylvia paled, her eyes immediately becoming distant. I could feel the strike of fear run through her.

I hated that.

I didn’t want her to be scared.

One of her hands rested on my arm and I took one of the others, giving her a soft reassuring squeeze.

I handed Anne my phone, letting her read for herself what the bastard had said. She let out a frustrated hiss, glaring down at the texts. Her diamond pupils grew bigger, the snakes around her head hissing too.

“I wonder if he knows,” she said, scowling. “Does he know where you live? Has he ever been here before?”

“Not that I am aware of,” I said. “I moved after they kidnapped me last. I did my best to make sure no one found out, but he is difficult to hide from.”

“Fuck,” Anne cursed again. “You need to let Inferna know. We should video call her.”

“We should put clothes on first then,” Sylvia said, letting go of my arm. “I’ll go grab them.”

Anne and I watched as she went to my bedroom. Sylvia shut the door too, putting space between us.

“Anne,” I said under my breath. “I want both of you to go to safety.”

“And leave you alone and in heat?” she snapped. “No.”

“I will be okay,” I said, even though the idea of being alone right now felt like torture.

“No,” she said again. “No. I won’t leave you, Alex. You’re not alone.”

“He will hurt everyone—”

“I said no!” she shouted, the snakes around her head roaring to life.

She hissed at me, her fangs dripping with venom. I wasn’t scared of her, but the outburst did make me freeze.
