CHAPTERFIFTEEN

confessions

SYLVIA

After the threeof us had been fully satisfied, we’d thrown on some clothes and gone outside to see if there were any signs of Alfred. There had been none, which had been both alarming and comforting.

We’d come back inside, let Inferna know that there were no signs of him, and then we all agreed that a shower would be good.

It was to my delight that Alex had a very nice shower and a large bathtub in the bathroom that joined his room. The three of us rinsed off, and then Alex ran a hot bath with Epsom salts for us.

Anne opted to sit next to us on a soft stool as she didn’t want to deal with her tail in the water, which meant I had a great view of her lounging, naked and gorgeous. Her scales shimmered, her skin smooth.

I looked away, blushing.

Both of my mates were hot.

I wanted to make a bond with her soon too.

Alex sighed happily, relaxing more. I smiled to myself, the heat of the water relaxing my muscles.

“I can almost forget about work,” Alex chuckled.

“Ihadforgotten,” Anne laughed.

I snorted, rolling my eyes. “I’d like to start work. It’s been a strange time.”

They both looked at me, and I could feel the curiosity.

I sighed, sinking down more into the tub. I knew that both of them wanted to know more about what had happened to me when Alfred had me trapped.

It had been a dark time. Literally and figuratively.

And then Ember happened.

I thought about my friend for a moment. She and her partners had become close to me, and so had Cinder and their partners. I had ended up with a little network of people I could rely on, that were there to help me figure out how to get my life back.

When I had disappeared there had been so many things that had gone wrong, and the world had assumed I was dead. Getting my bank account back had been step one, and there had been some magic involved to keep humans from asking too many questions.

“You can ask,” I said.

“I don’t want to pry,” Anne said.

“Of course you do,” I chuckled. “And that’s okay. I can talk about everything now just fine.”

Alex held his breath next to me for a moment and then let it out, cocking his head. “How did you end up trapped?”

“Well, I used to work at another branch of offices, one that Alfred had more control over. I was a manager like Inferna and eventually drew his attention. Slowly but surely, I started taking on extra projects for him until I realized it was hurting witches and monsters. Then, I tried to tell another manager, someone I thought I could trust. He turned out to be working with Alfred closely, so it was seen as a betrayal. I don’t know how long I was held in the dark. The most monstrous part of me took over to survive, and well…I can live for a long time.”

“I’m so sorry,” Anne whispered.

I shrugged. I had come to terms with it and was thankful to be free. But, I would most likely never want to be completely in the dark again.

“It sucked,” I said. “But I’m out of it and doing much better now.”

Alex was silent, his eyes never leaving me. “I’m going to send him back to hell.”

“Good. Because if you don't, I will,” I said, sitting up straight. “I’ve been lucky. Lucky to have met Ember and everyone else here. And…everything that has happened between the three of us this week has been good too. I swore up and down I would never be involved with a witch though,” I said, giving Alex a hard look. “Specifically anomega.”
