He let out a dry laugh. A bitter one. “Witches make me nervous, and I am one. No, you don’t deserve to go through anything else. And while I can’t control this…reaction… I’ll go home and try to figure it out.”

“Can you?” I asked.

I shouldn’t ask that. Now, the two of us were standing in the parking garage, talking like two awkward younglings. Still, I couldn’t resist.

I wanted to know.

“Can Iwhat?” he asked, his gaze meeting mine.

“Can you figure this out alone?” I asked.

His lips parted, his brows drawing together. “I don’t know,” he answered honestly. “I’ve never gone into heat like this. I’m…” His words trailed off, and I could practically see the wave of need that rushed over him. His cheeks reddened, a pant leaving him.

“Fuck,” he whispered.

He looked like he was in pain.Suffering.

He waved his hand and then turned around in the middle of our conversation and walked away. His steps were hurried, and I watched as he walked across the parking garage to his car, got in and slammed the door, and then peeled away.

I didn't want him to go. I wanted him to stay. Fuck.

I did not come in this morning thinking this would be how my day would go. I had hoped I would walk into this office and land a nice interview, and be able to go back to having a normal life. A life that involved monsters and witches, but in a way that was good.

This has been a disaster.

Still, I felt an ache in my chest. Watching him go had made me only want him more.

The elevator doors slid open again, and out came Anne. I looked up at her, and she looked at me.

“He just left,” I whispered.

Anne looked angry. Her eyes were golden with diamond-shaped pupils, and they burned like hellfire.

The snakes that surrounded her head had unraveled, making her appear like she had long luscious locks, except they ended in snakeheads. She was disheveled, her muscles tense.

She came to me and, to my surprise, pushed me against the parking garage wall with a hiss.

“Anne,” I gasped, but I didn’t stop her.

I’d had a crush on her since I met her. She was the one who had been there for me when I’d been rescued from the office. She had dressed my wounds and made the calls to people who could help. Between her and Ember, they had helped me get back on my legs.

I drew in a shaky breath, taking in her scent.

“Tell me no,” Anne whispered.

“I won't tell you no,” I said.

Anne sighed and then leaned forward, her lips meeting mine. I groaned, immediately melting against her. My second set of hands settled on her hips, my spider legs wrapping around her body to draw her closer.

She groaned, her tongue meeting mine. She pushed me up against the wall a little bit harder, her hands gliding down my hips. The taste of her was refreshing, but I wanted more. I wanted to do a lot more that wasn't acceptable to happen in a parking garage at work.

I let out a growl and then drew back. “Fuck. We’re fucked.”

“We are,” she rasped, kissing me again.

Her tongue met mine again, and I groaned, feeling my pussy pulse. The scent of Alex’s heat still lingered, driving me crazy.

All I could think about was what it would be like to be with both of them at the same time. Alex’s heat would drive us crazy, and I wanted to feel that. I wanted to submit to both of them, to give in to whatever they wanted. It had been so long since I’d been with someone, and there was an ache inside my chest that went away when she touched me.
