“Shit!” Chris muttered. “I didn’t realize they were going to be this early!”

Jamie grabbed a towel and wrapped it around his waist as Chris picked up his clothes. Jamie hurried to the window and glanced out.

“Fuck! There are three Secret Service cars out there!”

“Turn on the shower—pretend you were just getting in,” Chris replied.

Jamie’s heart hammered in his chest. He didn’t know what might have happened if he hadn’t heard those cars pulling up the driveway. His mother would walk in any second.

“Go!’ he said to Chris, shooing him out of the room.

“Okay!” Chris replied, hurrying to the door, yesterday’s clothes covering him strategically. “Jamie?”

“Yeah?” Jamie asked, turning to find Chris still in the doorframe, smiling at him.

“Happy birthday.”

A wide grin spread over Jamie’s face, and he hurriedly stepped forward to give Chris one last kiss. “Go!”

Chris smiled, then disappeared next door, just as the front door opened.

“James? Are you here?”

“Yeah, Mom!” He called down, leaning over the banister and waving. “I have the water running—I was just about to get in the shower.”

The face of his mother and that of Natalie Richmond looked up at him. He gave them an easy smirk, standing there naked but for the towel at his waist and a thankfully ebbing erection.

“Okay, honey,” the president called up to him with a smile. “But don’t be too long. I have a double shot caramel Frap and a Krispy Kreme down here with your name on them!”

“Oh, Mama!” Jamie replied. “Anybody would think it was my birthday!”

She laughed and turned away, leaving Jamie free to head into the shower. Chris’s door was closed as he passed it on the way back to his room. He wondered if Chris was quite as frustrated as he was about not being able to finish, and Jamie wondered how he would manage to make it through the day with that weighing on his mind.

Chapter 16

Chris had been left no choice but to jerk off in the shower after he and Jamie were interrupted by President Barratt from their—quite frankly—amazing sex session. He would never have made it to lunchtime without wanting to push Jamie against the nearest wall to finish what they had started otherwise. Chris had honestly thought they’d had plenty of time before the president’s arrival and had wanted to give Jamie a nice birthday present, but that plan had been ruined and put on the backburner.

They were walking on the beach now—Jamie and his mother ahead with Chris and Natalie tailing them at a distance, Natalie occupied with her PDA as about six other Secret Service agents walked on the perimeter. Jamie had his mother’s arm linked through his and they were chatting animatedly to each other as they walked across the sand. Chris couldn’t take his eyes off Jamie’s long legs—he’d never actually followed him at this distance before, never noticed how Jamie had an amazing center of gravity as he walked, never really seen how great his ass looked from twenty paces behind…

“You’re quiet,” Natalie said, not glancing up from her PDA.

“What?”

She glanced up that time. “You’re quiet,” she repeated. “I mean, I know that you’ve never been a seriously chatty guy, but this is quiet even for you. You’ve not said a single word for three hours. Not even hi to me.”

Chris inhaled deeply and huffed again, running a hand over his hair. “I’m sorry. Hi.”

“Too late now, Roberts,” Nat replied with a grin. “Are you worried about tonight?”

“Tonight?”

“Jamie’s party.”

“Oh,” said Chris, slightly confused. “Not really, no.”

“Because it won’t be as bad as you think, you know.” Natalie looked down at her PDA as it beeped ominously.

“What do you meanbad?”
