Epilogue

Waylen

Three years later…

I cannot believe Posey talked me into the adoption of another cat into our home.

It’s an older “kitten” I’ve named Beast. This one has short hair and stripes and swirls of orange, brown and black, along with white paws and chest. It’s fierce at first and extremely rambunctious and incapable of accepting cuddles because it was originally found underneath a shed, born in the wild. I enjoy the fact that Beast seems calm only with me.

My female grumbles that she has to keep the kitten from playing too rough with Demon, but I do not agree. Demon does a good job of holding her position of seniority and smacking down the junior beast, as she should. Posey adores the new cat, widening her circle of love to include me, our son and our daughter that grows in her slightly swollen belly, along with this new kitten.

Gavin comes running inside, chasing the kitten, still hyped up from his day in kindergarten. I drive him to school and pick him up each day. The other parents have gotten used to me.

“Cake, cake,” he yells out, his red eyes flashing with excitement.

Because today we celebrate the release of Posey’s latest book which “hit number one in the store” as she calls it and number one on “all the lists.” Whatever that means. “The reviews compare my writing to Anne Rice!” she cries out with joy. It sounds impressive and I’m happy for her.

Then I cut the cake. Because it turns out I like human treats.

The next morning my mate wakes me up before dawn with the most amazing blow job.

I’ve taught her well.

My orgasm is so intense I fall back asleep after I’ve pleasured her too. I awake later at the first tendrils of sunrise to an empty bed and find her in the kitchen, tending to Demon. It is still early and our son continues to sleep upstairs. She hands me a mug of Traq, brewed to my exacting specifications. “How about we start the morning together, on the terrace?”

I grunt in agreement.

Posey pulls on a black “hoodie” and we walk outside and sit down together in the crisp spring morning. I look around at the mountains and the trees and think upon my life and my family. The joy I take from my collaborations with Taygar and the work I do, spreading the learning of Voltare combat traditions. And suddenly a truth about my circumstance flashes in my mind. “My rival did me a favor by framing me for murder and orchestrating my banishment from Voltare.”

“Oh, really?” my female questions. “You just finally figured that out?”

I glance over at my bold mate. Posey loves me more than life itself and her smiles are only for me and our family. She may hardly ever admit this to me, only saying the actual words that one time during our human mating ceremony, but she shows me often with her actions. This is acceptable. I can say the words often enough for the two of us.

I pull her onto my lap and place a hand on her stomach, where our daughter grows. “I love you too, female.”

And then she gifts me a brilliant smile and kisses me passionately as the sun rises. Warmth fills my body as well as my heart.
