Alize is swearing bloody murder, but Keller is surprisingly calm.

My blood is pumping, thrill burning through the haze of apathy that usually overshadows my life. I’ve had an ax to grind with Keller for alongtime—I just never had the right excuse. This is as good as any. He’s trying to hurt my best friend’s fiancée, after all.

I cross the room toward them.

Keller wraps his arm around Alize’s neck, bringing her up to her toes as he backs closer to the window. We’re three stories high. How the fuck did he break in through there?

“Don’t come any closer or I’ll toss her out the window,” he shouts, a demented smile on his face. He always looks like he’s teetering at the edge of sanity.

The room is dimly lit, so I can’t make out more than the basics of his expression. I can’t tell if his pupils are dilated or if his pulse is quicker than it should be—telltale signs of a high. Because this motherfucker has to be on drugs to think this was a good idea.

Alize has stopped struggling, mostly.

She’s staring at me wide-eyed, gasping for breath. I don’t have my fucking gun, so I can’t do anything without getting any closer. They are too close to the window for my liking. He’s crazy enough to do it, and I can’t afford for him to—if anything happens to Alize, Alexander would kill methenKeller.

I want to live.

Keller’s only weakness is that he’s dumb. Dumb enough to do shit like this. Dumb enough to think he can flout the consequences of his actions even though he’s fucking with powerful people. Dumb enough to…underestimate Alize?

Alize hikes up the hem of her sleep pants quickly, then there’s a glimmer in her hand. It’s when blood springs from his arm that I realize she’s got a knife too. Keller cries out in pain, the surprise of the wound makes him loosen his grip on her, just enough for her to bolt to the other end of the room.

Just enough for me to get to him.

Keller tries to go out the window, but I grab him before he can. He’s on the floor in an instant—compared to me, he’s pretty scrawny—and I’ve got my elbow by his throat.

I’m grinning as I put pressure on his trachea.

He sucks in a raspy breath. The knife in my other hand hovers by his face. Liam’s eyes are wide and he’s bleeding out on the expensive rug. I can’t think of the last time I’ve been this close to him to notice just how disgusting his face is.

“Keller, Keller,Keller,” I scold. “This is probably the dumbest thing you could haveeverdone.”

He couldn’t reply to me even if he wanted to.

I press the blade of my knife against his cheek, pulling a sliver a crimson to the surface of his skin. His eyes frantically move to the spot. I don’t stop the pressure, slicing into his flesh little by little.

Just a couple months ago Alexander put him in the hospital.

He’s a glutton for punishment, it seems.

“But, I think I should thank you,” I say. “My night was pretty boring before this. Now, dare I say, I’m fucking excited about how it’s going to end.”

Keller squeaks out some pathetic excuse for a sentence. He’ll pass out in a few seconds from a lack of air. That’s when I’llreallyget to have my fun. I look away from him to find Alize standing at the other end of the room.

She’s shivering, and there’s blood all over her—Keller’s blood. As much as I would love to help her through her panic attack, I have more pressing matters to deal with, so I give her something else to think about.

“Hey, Alize,” I say, getting her attention. “There’s some rope in the closet off the kitchen. Do you think you could get it for me?”

She skitters out of the room.

Keller goes slack beneath me. “Perfect.”

When Alize returns with the length of rope, I slice it up with my knife and use two pieces to bind his hands and feet. The rest of it, I’ll use to tie him to one of the dining room chairs in the living room.

“What are you going to do to him?” Her voice shakes.

I grab Keller’s collar and start dragging him out of the room. “Do you really want to know?” I don’t have a problem telling her my plans, but I’m not certain she can actually manage hearing them. She’s a trembling mess as it is.

She takes a look at Keller, then at me.
