"This is so fucked up," Wesley murmurs. He's standing over Laurent's body.

My head snaps up, and I spear him with an icicle gaze. "Is it?" This isn't the time to get sidetracked. "Because the last I checked, my fucking fiancée is missing and we aren't any closer to find her."

I cross the space between us and grab him by the collar.

"You're running out of time," I say. "Or did you forget that I have a bullet with your name on it if we don't find her?"

George is the one who breaks our conversation.

When I shove Wesley away from me, I find that George has powered on the wall of screens. They're playing CCTV footage. They must have gone out when Reggie's device went off.

At least we're sure it works now.

George is fiddling with the keyboard.

There are about 15 different feeds being displayed simultaneously. There are a few of the street outside—our SUV is just out of range–the garage, different parts of the house, and this dingy basement.

"Rewind them," I say. "Does this thing have audio?"

George taps a few keys. "It does, but there are no speakers down here. Reggie could probably rip the audio if we take this back to him."

My eyes are glued to the screen as he rewinds.

In a couple seconds, the time stamp skips all the way back to two hours before—while I was running around searching houses on the other side of town—and the footage starts smack in the middle of a conversation between Alize and Laurent.

She looks worse than the last time I saw her in the footage from the garden. Weaker, even though it seems like she’s trying to speak with Laurent. Knowing Alize, she’s probably trying to use the only avenue she has—amiability.

They leave the room for a few minutes, and when they come back, Alize seems more shaken than before. My chest tightens.

I'm worried about her.

I'm worried about the baby.

Then Laurent leaves, and she's alone for a while. She falls asleep. George fast-forwards the rest of it, until we get to the part that confirms the suspicions I had when I saw Laurent dead.

Michel Moreau.

He enters the frame after Laurent has decided to use Alize as a human shield. The two men have a tense standoff. We're watching at 3x speed with no sound, but whatever it is seems to have Laurent extremely emotional.

Even Alize gets involved at some point.

Then Michel shoots the side of Laurent’s face clean off.

For what it's worth, Alize puts up a fight. But he knocks her out and leaves with her. They appear next on the footage of the garage. Michel takes Laurent's Jaguar, and they peel out of the driveway.

"How long ago was this?" Laurent's body is still warm.

George checks the timestamps. "We missed them by twenty minutes."

Fucking hell.

"They can't be far," I say, turning away from the screens. "Grab the footage, and torch this place!" I shout to nobody in particular. I'm already moving toward the exit.

"Sir?" One of the men asks me.

I shoot him a glare.

"Burn this fucking place down," I repeat. "We've got our fucking DNA all over this place. We can't wait for the neighbours to call the cops when he starts to stink."
