"You're not going to make it out of this alive, Michel!" I finally say. "Just put down your weapon and give me Alize. Maybe I'll spare your life."

I never would.

He's going to die.

I think he knows that.

Alize's father laughs at my words, then points the gun at his daughter's head, moving his grip to her throat. Alize screams, the Beneventi men beside me twitch and the whole situation seems like it's escalating out of control.

"You can kill me!" Michel shouts. "But I'm going to kill her first." He's grinning like a lunatic. "Wouldn't that be delightful?"

My whole life flashes before my eyes.

All of my dreams for the future I wanted with Alize, with our child.

Michel is desperate. Killing Alize would be a parting shot that I would never be able to live down, and he knows it.

"Don't you fucking dare!" I scream.

For what it’s worth, Alize is stoic, though I know she must be shaking on the inside. She’s just staring at me,trustingme. My heart is shattering in my chest. I need to do something.

I can't lose her.

"Let her go and you can leave."

I really can't believe the words I just said.

But if I had to choose between saving Alize and getting my revenge, I would choose her every time. With my eyes closed.

Michel seems to consider my offer.

I get strange looks from Wesley and George. Alize has been through enough.

I just want her.

Michel is inching closer to the door.

"Just let her go," I say again.

Michel lowers his gun at that moment.

And then pushes Alize over the railing of the stairs and ducks into the plane. A barrage of gun shots go off, but all I can see is Alize tumbling to her death.

I break into a sprint.

No.

No.

My eyes well up. Shots whistle through the air, and I feel the breeze zinging past my body as I run towards Alize. The world spins around me and the wind is knocked out of my lungs.

She's screaming.

Falling.

Dying.

No.
