“I’m sure it has more to do with Jake than me, sports are all you men think about, aren’t they? Speaking of Jake, this is Dr. Mark Jensen, Lizzie Evers, and Tammie and Dr. John Cooper,” she said making the introductions.

“A pleasure to meet all of you finally,” Jake told them. “Stacey’s told me all about you.”

“How are you enjoying Seattle?” John asked.

“Enormously, my friend Miles has been trying to get me out to visit for years and then the past three he’s been telling me I should meet his girlfriend’s friend Stacey. The moment I do I find myself roped into some crazy bachelor auction, so that was quite unexpected.”

“We’re all quite aware of Stacey’s ability to twist arms,” Mark stated.

“I’ve seen it firsthand on more than just myself,” Jake replied as he held in a laugh looking behind her.

“What’s so amusing about that?” she asked seeing the laughter fill his gaze.

“It’s mostly what’s behind you that I’m finding amusing,” he admitted watching her closely as she turned to see what he meant.

“Oh lord,” she muttered under her breath.

“Another of the Brokens I take it?” Jake stated.

“The Brokens?” Tammie said glancing between them.

“The broken hearts that Stacey’s left in her wake,” he expanded. “That’s what her friends from the wedding were calling them.”

“And now I know quite well why you should never go out with your friends’ friends,” she told the group.

“Didn’t you actually go out with Miles first?” Lizzie asked as the waiter returned with their drinks and Cole showed a few more people to the table.

“Wait, you went out with Miles?” Jake stated staring at her. “No, you two would never have…”

“I didn’t technically go out with him. I said yes to going out with him and then sent Emma in my place,” she explained.

“I don’t see Emma agreeing to that.”

“She didn’t know and neither did Miles,” she said with a shrug as the men greeted Jake.

“And who is this gorgeous creature?” one of them asked looking over her form as she remained seated.

“Cool it,” Jake warned. “This is Stacey Martin, the mastermind behind our little endeavor and my friend Miles’ wife’s best friend.”

“Who was just explaining how Miles and Emma got together,” Mark added with a smile for her. “Quite devious, aren’t you?”

“Maybe I simply knew Miles would be the perfect man for my best friend?” she offered.

“Then why is there a new man around every time I see you?” Lizzie asked.

“Because I know when they’re right and when they’re wrong, ask my assistant if you don’t believe me. She was about to break up with her boyfriend just after Emma’s wedding, but I told her to hang in there and now she’s planning her own.”

“But nothing on the horizon for you?” Tammie asked.

“No, I don’t think I’ll ever walk down the aisle,” she admitted with total honesty avoiding Jake’s gaze.

“Hold on, you’re saying you’ve never had a long-term relationship?” Gary, the running back for the Seattle team, asked shaking his head.

“One in high school and before I moved here but our lives went in two separate directions and there’s no way for them to merge.”

“Well, if you’re single what about spending an evening on the town with me?” Charlie, the tight end, questioned.

“You don’t want to attempt that one,” Jake warned as his gut tightened hearing the conviction behind her words. “Courtesy of her very talkative friends, she’s chewed up and spit out nearly three dozen men in the last six months alone, including Walk…”
