“That makes me feel better but seriously…eight years?”

“Beat Cee’s, speaking of which, does Emma know the mystery man she was with the year after we split?” Jake asked. “She won’t say anything about him, and I’ve got to know who to thank and then beat the hell out of for stealing my girl.”

“I’m not exactly comfortable discussing Stacey’s sex life with my wife. I don’t have a clue who she’s slept with and who she hasn’t. She keeps that part of her life very quiet.”

“She says there hasn’t been anyone in seven years, but I don’t know. I know it’s been a while for her but it’s Cee.”

“Dude, I know, there’s a mile long list of guys clamoring for her attention but she never lets them through that wall she’s built up around her. You’ve got your work cut out for you.”

“Instead of a bachelor auction they should have just offered a date with her as the main prize, it’d pull in more than any of us for sure,” Jake laughed.

“You’d go broke trying to win it; she has billionaires after her man.”

“But I’m the one in her bed,” Jake countered as they hit the front door. “Anyone home?” he called up the stairs before seeing her and Emma turn the corner to come down them. “Mmm hey gorgeous…”

“Eww you’re all sweaty,” she said pulling back from him. “Go take a shower; you can use the one down here if you want Miles.”

“That sounds good and then we’re taking the two of you out to the movies. We’ll even let you pick right Jake?” Miles stated.

“We will though I’d prefer to not have to read subtitles, too distracting when there are much prettier things to look at,” he agreed dropping a kiss on her lips.

“Okay is it just me or are those two acting weird?” Emma asked when they disappeared.

“Completely, you don’t think Jake told Miles that I’m…”

“No…well maybe,” she said trying to figure it out.

“Talk to Miles please, I’m going to run upstairs and change into something a little more public worthy.”

“I will,” Emma promised slipping into the downstairs bathroom after she’d left. “Well?”

“Can’t I finish my shower first?” Miles asked even as he turned off the water and wrapped the towel around his waist. “Jake admitted that the only girl he’s ever loved is Stacey.”

“She told me about their past too. I can’t believe we didn’t see it. I knew there was something between them but this?”

“There’s more but you cannot tell Stacey, Jake will in his own time I’m sure but…”

“But what?” Emma asked.

“You know his ladies’ man rep? All false, that guy is worse than any of the Brokens.”

“What does that mean?”

“It means good buddy Jake there hasn’t slept with anyone but Stacey since Stacey.”

“No way…no way,” Emma gasped. “He hurt her by not showing up at the wedding, he did tell you that part, right?”

“Yeah, he told me, also told me that he went after her but was three days too late. He couldn’t find her, so he went ahead to the NFL. He knows she wanted him to choose her first and this time he is.”

“He’s going to stop playing?”

“He’s trying to get traded out here. Seriously Emma,” he said at her incredulous look. “He is completely in love with her still. More than that even, he wants to marry her and prove that she means everything to him.”

“Good, Stacey is in love with him too she’s just too scared to admit it. She’s sure he’s going to go back to New England and that’ll be it, only this time they’ll have a real good-bye.”

“So, Jake wants permanence while Stacey want a good-bye?” Miles asked. “Can those two be on further sides? Oh, Jake asked one thing too.”

“What?”
