“Because look at that hammer and then look at the others,” she said pointing to the one Nathaniel had put down.

“It’s different so he brought his own,” Dan stated.

“And left it? No,” she said kneeling down to look at the hammer. She noticed the groove around the base of the handle and took it off swearing under her breath as she saw what was inside. “Bryant, get everyone out of here.”

“What? Stacey what’s going on?” he asked coming over. “Shit…”

“Stacey,” Emma said staring at her.

“Emma, go now,” she said calmly as Bryant called it in.

“Everyone needs to clear the building now,” Bryant stated as he tried to usher them from the room.

“What’s going on?” Miles asked.

“What’s going on is that those three are completely mental and there’s likely two other bombs in the handles for the hammers,” she answered trying not to move.

“Stacey get up now,” Jake stated ignoring the looks from everyone else in the room.

“I can’t Jake, there’s a pressure switch and if I release it, it’s going to start the timer and I don’t know how long it’ll give me,” she replied as Emma starting crying. “Ems, I love you honey but go. Miles get her out of here.”

“Stacey…”

“You promised me you’d take care of her Miles, go.” She saw him pull her from the room as the fire alarm sounded. “Jake, go.”

“No, I’m not going anywhere Cee,” he said coming over to her.

“Jake, I don’t know if this thing will blow the second, I release the switch or simply start a timer, so please go.”

“No, I’m staying.”

“Damnit Jake go.”

“You can’t boss me around Cee.”

“Fine, then maybe you’ll listen to reason,” she said looking at him. “I will not let your mother find out what really happened with us this way. I won’t do that to her so please, for your mom, don’t make me have to risk telling her that or finding out we’re both dead.”

“Cee…”

“Please for me. For what we were, what we are right now, just go.”

“No, I left you once and I’m not doing it again.”

She sighed as Bryant came back in with a new man who studied the device and shook his head. “Get him out of here, he’s making me nervous,” she told them and watched as two officers pushed Jake out of the room, at least one of them would make it out of this.

Chapter 7

“So how bad is it?” Stacey asked Jim as he placed a protective vest over her taking care not to jostle her hand any.

“We’re working on it.”

“That bad huh?” she laughed.

“In order to figure anything out we need to get it out of the hammer to see the rest of it.”

“Okay, I’d really prefer not to die today and I know that if this one blows it’ll set off the others.”

“They’re small but a succession of them will cause enough damage which is why we’re taking the others out and searching through the rest of the room and the tools to make sure that’s all,” he said calmly.
