“And when they agree to share their world with us is when we know they’ve approved us,” he stated. “Feel like heading home?”

“I could be persuaded,” she agreed saying goodnight to the rest of the group. “Let’s hope Stacey and Jake last because I don’t want to lose my best friend.”

“Me either honey,” Miles agreed once they were in their car. “It’ll work out; it’s got to.”

“You’re still mad, aren’t you?” Jake asked as he followed her up the steps.

“Mad about what, you questioning who I’ve slept with when it’s none of your business? I’ve already told you I’m not answering it. I haven’t asked for a list of your conquests and at least I can remember the names of mine.”

“It’s short Cee—you. You are the only woman I’ve slept with since we’ve been together. Eleven years and you’re the only one I want.”

“Even if I did believe that—which I don’t, there’s still a list a mile long that you’ve come close to sleeping with isn’t there?”

“No, a handful at the most has ever even been to my place and the furthest they’ve gotten is the couch.”

“So, look at what we’ve done on the couch the last five months,” she countered.

“Not a single woman has ever replaced you for me Cee, not one of them made me feel this maddening need to have them, hold them, be possessed by them, only you baby.”

“Prove it,” she sighed wrapping her arms around his neck to kiss him.

“Shit Cee,” he groaned pulling back a bit later as he lifted her into his arms and carried her to the bedroom. He unzipped the back of her dress and let it pool on the floor as he took in her body. He sat down on the edge of the bed and gazed at her, and the way the curve of her hips flowed upwards towards her tiny waist. He let his hands trail over her as his mouth made a path up her body from her navel.

He reached the hollow of her throat and lifted her onto his lap letting his hands bring her a release before beginning to think of discarding his own clothes and sending her over again. He wanted her to know just how much she meant to him, that it was all for her, always for her.

“Jake…oh god Jake,” she gasped as her hands tightened on his shoulders.

“I’m right here baby, right here,” he promised kissing her. “Let go Cee, come home to me.”

“Oh god…” she whispered against his lips. “Jake please, come with me…”

“I’m always with you baby,” he stated as her body tightened around his and he flew over with her.

He soothed his hands down her back as she laid on top of him and kissed her temple as they came back down. “I’ve missed you, missed holding you like this Cee.”

“It’s only been three days Jake.”

“I meant the last eight years baby, but the last three days have been hell. Finding you again, having you again and then being without you, I can’t let you go this time Cee.”

“So, you’re going to give up football for me this time?” she asked not daring to look at him.

“If that’s what you want yes. I just want you in my life baby. Will I miss playing yes but I’ll miss you more.”

“Then you’d resent me, and I’d lose you anyway,” she countered. “I don’t want that, Jake.”

“But you do want me in your life?” he asked pressing a kiss to the top of her head.

“Yes, because this has always been between us. So maybe we can figure out how to make this work once you go back. I just…I can’t be one of many Jake.”

“You’re not Cee, baby I swear there is no one else.”

“For now, but there’ll be someone somewhere that throws them self at you and you’ll give in. I know it’ll happen so just don’t lie to me about it when it does. I’ll survive losing you again.”

“You’ve already got us ending Cee before we’ve had a real beginning this time.”

“Did we ever really have a true ending the first time? You not showing up didn’t resolve anything.”
