“Wow-a-wee, when you decide this guy’s been entirely too stupid, please come see me,” he said taking in her dress.

“Careful Gary your date seems to be getting jealous of the attention you’re paying my girl,” Jake warned.

“Just stating a fact because unless you’re blind this girl is dynamite,” he replied before his date drug him away.

Stacey glanced around the room and felt her smile tighten.

“What’s wrong baby?” Jake asked noting the tension in her back increase.

“Seems I have quite a few exes or single dates in the room,” she admitted.

“Ah more of the Brokens?” he teased as the music started up. “Come dance with me and show them there’s no point in longing after you.”

“Mmm, you won’t step on my feet?”

“Did I ever?”

“Twice,” she said as he pulled her towards him and let his hand linger on her lower back barely above her butt where the dress finally began again.

“When?”

“Once at the championship dance, they were playing ‘Open Arms’ by Journey,” she answered giving him a smile as she remembered the night and the way he’d made her feel.

“Our first slow dance, it was a bit surreal to find you actually in my arms that night. I think I made up for it though later.”

“You did,” she agreed.

“So, when was the second time?” he asked bringing her closer.

“The night of my senior prom, the song…do you remember it?” she questioned as his hand pressed against her back more.

“I do, it was ‘Hero’ and you told me…”

“That I wanted to be with you completely,” she finished for him. “I wish we could go back there and have everything be so easy again.”

“It can be if we let go of the pain and just move forward together. I love you, Cee. I always have and I will do anything to keep you this time.”

“I can’t leave Jake; everything I have is here now.”

“I’m not asking you to leave here baby. I don’t want to leave here.”

“And how exactly would that work playing for New England?”

“It won’t.”

“Precisely, you’d end up hating me because you had to give up football.”

“No, I won’t Cee, but I’m not giving it up yet,” he admitted as he cupped the back of her head and lifted her face towards his. “I signed the deal this afternoon.”

“What deal?” she asked as her heart raced.

“To play for Seattle, I’m staying Cee. I’m here for you. Football comes second to you baby. I’m all in this so I have to know, are you?”

“You’re going to stay here? With me? No, Jake that’s sweet but you can’t give up your position.”

“I already have. The announcement comes out tomorrow baby. I’m here, with you, for you, I don’t care if I don’t win another Super Bowl or if I don’t play another whole game or even that I’m taking a pay cut to be here because none of that matters. I wantyou; I always have.”

“You’re serious? This isn’t some trick to get me to agree to come with you to stop you from doing something completely crazy?” she asked searching his eyes for the answer.
