“I’m just a bit surprised, I guess. I know you two were together at the auction but…”

“Walker, Jake and I go back farther than just Emma and Miles’ wedding. He was my first serious boyfriend back home.”

“Ah, and now he’s back and staying in Seattle?” he said seeing the look on her face.

“Joining the team here…”

“Congratulations, I’ll see you around Stacey.”

“Bye Walker,” she replied as he headed off. She saw the grins and laughs from Miles and Emma, and she sent them glares. “Enough of this Brokens crap please; I am so tired of hearing that I’ve destroyed legions of men.”

“Sorry but look around this room Stace, there are at least twenty guys wishing they could pound Jake’s face in and steal you from him,” Emma teased.

“Oh my god you’re impossible,” she laughed.

“I can take it,” Jake stated running his hand up and down her back. “I’ve got Cee after all.”

“Do you now?” she asked.

“Barely but I do and I’m not letting go…”

“I guess we’ll see, won’t we?” she stated as the host for the evening invited Jake and Gary up on stage.

“Congrats man, we’ll miss your arm but may the best team win,” Dan said as they shook hands.

“Oh, we will,” Gary said reaching them to get Jake.

Jake said something aside to the host and she knew what part of it was by the look on the host’s face as he nodded.

“Good evening, ladies and gentlemen, we’d like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their donations and participation in the event and now it’s time for us to reveal the winner of the wager between the Seattle and New England but first we need to recalculate the totals. Jake has decided to pull his bid from the total, but I think I’ll let him tell you all why.”

Jake took the mike and sent a smile towards her making her shake her head in a bit of worry as to what he was going to say. “I have pulled my total because it’s not quite fair to either of my teams, the one I was with for the auction or the one that I am a part of as of today. I will stand back and congratulate whichever team comes out on top and we’d all like to thank the driving force behind this evening the fundraising committee from Graces and a special thank you to the beautiful woman who is my date tonight and every other night, Miss Stacey Martin. And now with the totals,” he added as the host came back over.

“Well without Jake’s amounts the winners by a total of five hundred dollars is…Seattle.”

Jake turned to the band as they finished and then headed her way as they began a song. She smiled as he reached her and went into his arms as their song played. She rested her head against his chest and let the memories come to her. She knew she shouldn’t because he was still bound to get bored being just with her but for now, she’d enjoy having him again.

He kissed her as it ended, and she didn’t care who watched or saw. She was here with him, and she wanted to be. He walked her over to a side table grabbing a couple glasses of champagne for them as they went.

“So, this is where you snuck off to,” Emma said a bit later as they interrupted their kiss.

“Mmm, don’t you know not to interrupt a dying man’s need for life?” Jake asked holding her to him.

“Sorry,” Miles laughed.

“Wasn’t that the song the two of you were forced to dance to at the wedding?” Emma asked watching them. “Stacey usually turned it off whenever it came on.”

“You did, did you? You used to love it,” Jake commented staring down into her eyes.

“I still liked the song just not the stream of memories it brought up.”

“Memories?” Emma said looking between them.

“It was our song, from the moment he pulled me into his arms and ignored the rest of the crowd wanting to congratulate him, focused on just me during it, it was our song.”

“Seems like fate doesn’t it then? You catching the bouquet, Jake the garter and then having it be that song,” Emma stated giving her a long look.

“More like torture, then again we were both trying to make the other mad and it worked I think,” she countered.
