That was good… I needed the sting.

I wonder what I’ll do with Abigail Miller. Because of my gifts, I’ve always been able to read people well. I’ve never been at a loss on how to deal with people. But it’s different with Abigail. Sometimes, I feel like she has a huge defensive wall around her heart and soul that prevents external probing. It’s not like she’s completely immune to my gifts. I know that because sometimes I catch a whiff of her true feelings. Like when I was in the room with her earlier. I’d felt a sharp lust from her, followed by a mild distaste that made my stomach sink with disappointment.

I understand that she can’t stand me despite our sizzling attraction. It makes sense she hates me for disrupting her life. But how can she still be so obstinate after I told her the things that Anderson did to her? How can she be so nonchalant about her life?

She even called him an honest businessman…Honest, my foot!

“A word, Prez.”

I look up to see Bones lowering himself on the empty stool beside mine. He places his large palms on his thighs and shakes his head at me. “She can’t be here, Prez.”

I don’t need to ask to whom he was referring. “Why do you think so, Bones?”

“Seer told me everything. She can’t remember what she did to me?” he scoffs incredulously. “How fucking convenient. Anyway, she’s of no use to us now, right? I say we let her get the fuck out before I give in to the urge to put a bullet in her pretty skull and put her out of her misery for good.”

I look directly into Bones’ agitated eyes and shake my head slowly. “I can’t let her go,” I say quietly. “If I do, Anderson will hurt her.”

She’s mine to protect now.

“I don’t give a fuck if Anderson strangles the bitch and dumps her in some sea!” Bones barks, fisting his hands on his knees. “You know what she did to me, Prez. How can you be so fucking calm?”

He must be clenching his teeth hard because the veins on his neck keep pulsing angrily. I’ve never seen Bones so angry.

“She wasn’t herself when she did that to you,” I say, trying to keep my voice as calm as possible.

“I don’t care if she was bewitched or being pulled on a fucking string,” Bones says through gritted teeth. “It doesn’t erase the fact that she set me up. She pumped me up on drugs and made me sleep in a cold cell for days.” He slams his palm hard on the wooden table and shakes his slowly. “I’ll never forgive her for that.”

“Calm the fuck down, Bones,” I say, downing the rest of the drink in my glass. “Anderson set you up, not her.”

“I don’t fucking care, anyway,” Bones says coldly. “I don’t want to set eyes on her. Please, let her go, Prez.”

I let out a rough sigh. I'm exhausted between trying to keep Abigail alive and thinking of ways to deal with Anderson. I’m fucking tired and can’t even have a glass of alcohol in peace. It’s not like I blame Bones for wanting Abigail out of his sight after what she did to him, but I seriously wish he’d pick another time to do this.

“You have to understand, Bones…she’s the only connection between Anderson and his crimes,” I say slowly, rubbing a thumb on my right temple to chase away the dull ache that’s threatening to flare up at any second. “It may not look like it now because of the hex, but we need her.”

I fucking hate headaches…they trigger my IED.

Bones snickers loudly. “You mean you need her?”

“Excuse me?” I ask with a frown.

“Why do you keep defending that bitch, Prez?” Bones asks with a scoff. “Do you want to fuck her so bad? Is that it?”

“You will not speak to me in that manner,” I say quietly, glaring into his eyes until he lowers his gaze.

“I’m sorry, Prez,” Bones says contritely. He runs his right hand down his face and lets out a defeated sigh. “It’s just…. When I think about the way she manipulated me, it drives me crazy. The fact that she’s under the same roof as I am and I can do nothing about it makes it harder. It’s like rubbing my foolery in my face.”

“I’m sorry you feel that way, Bones,” I say, placing my right hand on his left shoulder in a comforting pat. “But you need to look at the bigger picture. Anderson is the threat, not Miller. Like you and I, Bones…Abigail Miller is just a pawn on his chessboard. That bastard is the one that needs to feel the brunt of your anger. Let’s catch him and make him pay for messing with the Ruthless Kings.”

“But Snake tells me we don’t have a thing on him yet,” Bones says with a frown.

“Don’t worry, Bones,” I say, sliding my empty glass over to Buffy. “Evil bastards like Anderson Grey are bound to leave bloody trails behind them. We’ll find something.”

I will keep digging until I find his weakness. If I roll in the mud while trying to bring Anderson down, it doesn't matter. I will do what I have to do as long as my people are safe – includingAbigail Miller.
