Abigail shakes her head amusedly at Seer. She hooks her arm around my waist, giving me a side hug. “I’m glad you pulled through,” she says, dropping her head on my shoulders for a while before moving over to lean heavily into Pocus. The president welcomes his wife into his arms. He leans forward to whisper into her ear. Abigail’s smile grows bigger, her face turning a deeper shade of red with each private word that Pocus shares with her. I look around, and everyone in the kitchen is going about their business like every other morning. The large kitchen space is even more crowded now since more people have joined us. A light banter drifts through the room, punctuated by the occasionally amused snicker or a guffaw.

“Would you like me to make you some pancakes?” Seer asks quietly, taking my empty coffee mug from me.

“No, thanks,” I say, craning my neck to smile up at him.

“Okay,” he says, placing a quick kiss on my lips.

Bones clears his throat loudly, gaining all of our attention. “So… does this overnight change have anything to do with the suspicious cries I heard in the hallways last night?”

I inhale sharply, my eyes wide with shock. I slowly look around the faces of the other people in the kitchen and I can tell from their knowing smiles that they all know what Bones is talking about.

How loud was I last night?

I turn around and bury my face in Seer’s chest with an embarrassed chuckle. Seer’s chest vibrates against my face as a deep laughter rumbles through his chest.

“Whatever the case. It’s enough to know that you’re fine,” Pocus says, and a murmur of agreement goes around the room.

I turn around in Seer’s arms and smile gratefully at everyone in turn. “Thank you all so much for treating me like a part of your family.”

“What are you talking about? You are family,” Hex says like it’s a known fact. “Now, who’s up for baking a cake? It’s Frenchie’s birthday tomorrow.”

“Oh, me!”‘ Abigail says, raising her hand with childish excitement. “I’ll help.”

Pocus catches her hand in his and shakes his head at her. “No, mon coeur. You’re only up for a nice foot massage and some kisses in between.” And before she can say anything in response, he lifts her into his arms bridal style. Abigail lets out a surprised but pleased yelp, wrapping her arms around Pocus’s neck. “Babe!” she laughs. “Put me down. I’m heavy.”

Pocus laughs and leans over to kiss her lips. “You’re not. And I’m carrying you all the way to the room.”

And with that, he walks out of the kitchen with Abigail, their combined laughter trailing off behind them.

Hex turnstiles to me with a hopeful smile. “What do you say we create magic, beastie?”

“I’m sorry,” I say, shaking my head with mock solemnity. “I don’t know the first thing about baking.”

“I guess I’m left with my guys then,” Hex says, looking around to see who agrees with him.

And one after the other, everyone finds a reason to leave the kitchen, one more ridiculous than the last, until just Seer and I remain with Hex.

“Seer?” Hex calls hopefully.

Seer shakes his head gravely. “I’m sorry, brother,” he says, wrapping his arms around my waist. “I have to go make babies with Victoria.”

I burst into a peal of helpless laughter. I allow Seer to lead me out of the kitchen, throwing an apologetic glance over my shoulder at Hex.

“I’ll have to ask the ghosts then!” I hear Hex call after us. “I guess y’all aren’t scared to eat cakes baked by ghosts!”

CHAPTERTWENTY-NINE

Ididn’t bother to put on the kitchen light. It’s safe to say that I know my way around. Besides, I don’t think I want light reflecting in my eyes if I’m going to be getting any sleep again tonight. I sigh softly and walk over to the refrigerator. I hear a sound behind me and I turn around quickly with a soft gasp to see Seer standing a few feet away from me.

“My God, you scared me,” I laugh softly, placing my hand over my chest to steady my racing heart.

“Sorry, baby,” Seer says, walking over to me. My heart jumps in excitement as my eyes roam the lean muscles of his naked chest. I wonder if he’s wearing anything underneath the loose flannel pants he has on–most likely not. I wonder what it’d feel like to cup his manhood through his pants, to feel him harden in my hands.

I’m glad for the cover of the darkness. That way, Seer can’t sense the dirty thoughts running in my head.

“You thirsty?” I ask, keeping my voice level.

“Yeah,” Seer says, wrapping his arms around my waist. He rests against the kitchen counter, pulling me into him. “I’m thirsty for you, baby.” He buries his face in my neck, and I crane my neck to grant him better access, loving how he brandishes my skin with his wet, open-mouthed kisses. “Move into my room, Victoria,” Seer murmurs in between kisses. “I don’t enjoy waking up without you by my side.”
