“She heard women walking past as it happened. She cried out and no one helped her. No one.” With a final trace of her cheekbone with my thumb, I rumbled, “Women aren’t always ‘sisters.’”

Hell, if I hadn’t seen that for myself when it came time for the Old Ladies to get into catfights with clubwhores.

“I-I promise I won’t forget what you told me. Shoot close range. Text when I get in and when,if,they send me home with Father.”

“Pack the burner and the gun somewhere you don’t think they’ll check.”

MC eyed the gun. “Where the heck do you think I can putthat?”

I had to laugh. “That’s between you and God.” I turned around and scanned the streets to make sure no one was watching. “Now, go on. Hide ‘em.”

She huffed but didn’t argue. I heard grumbles and grunts, the sound of sighing, and then a yelp as the cold metal of the Glock collided with her skin.

“Right, done,” she grouched.

I turned around and stared at her. She wore one of my Henleys, so it was baggy on her, but she had several layers beneath it to fight off the winter chill and that offset the overlarge fit.

Her jeans were skinny so there was no hiding it in the waistband.

While she wore boots and thick socks, they were slim-fitting so she couldn’t tuck anything there. Her new gilet was padded, though, and it providedsomecover.

I regretted not buying her more clothes when we’d hit another store in Vegas to grab her some essentials before our flight.

Motioning with my hand for her to twist around, I looked at her, really looked at her, and couldn’t see where she’d hidden both.

“Good job,” I praised, watching her beam a gratified smile at me. Inwardly, I smirked at her reaction, then I pressed a final kiss to her lips and sealed the deal. “Now, be a good girl and own your future, hmm?”

When she did, that was when I knew I could keep her because fuck, I wanted to.

I didn’t want to lose this sweetness, didn’t want to lose the way she looked at me, how she made me goddamn feel when I was with her.

Whether she knew it or not, I was all in. To the point where I was starting to think about her needs more than I thought about my own.

Her eyes widened. “A-A good girl?”

I nodded as I climbed onto the back of my hog. When I started the engine, I shouted over the noise it made, “Yeah, mygood girl.”

That was when I took off.

I didn’t look back.

Because if I did, I wouldn’t let her go.

“Choices,” I muttered under my breath. “Why you gotta decide to be a gentleman now, Digger?”

Hell if I knew.

Getting a wife made a brother lose his fool mind—got it.

It tookme a ridiculous amount of time to stop gaping at Digger’s back.

So long, in fact, that he’d disappeared into the cacophonous traffic by the time I realized that I needed to get my butt in gear.

Sure, the man sent more mixed messages than a radio station, but that ‘good girl’ stuff…
