Aidan O’Donnelly Sr. was one such beast.

Unfortunately for him, I had a princess I needed to protect, and I didn’t mind if he bit my face off in the process.

“That’s why you married her? Retaliation?”

Of all the questions to ask, that one surprised me the most.

“Thatis what matters to you?”

“Answer me,” he growled.

“Fine.No. Why the hell would I need to retaliate against that bastard by marrying a woman he doesn’t deserve in the first place? I was saving her from someone Iknowis scum, O’Donnelly. Sparing her when no one thought to spare my mom.”

MC’s hand clutched at mine. “He was being kind, Uncle Aidan. A true gentleman. I was looking for my brother at the Sinners’ compound but he’d left on business. Digger helped me when I had no one to turn to.”

Senior’s eyes narrowed upon us both, then he jerked his chin. “Come with me.”

MC and I shared a look and it was only because her eyes were loaded with desperation that I obeyed his directive. It went against everything in my being to comply with the order of someone who wasn’t my Prez or on the council, but sensing that mutiny would only freak her out even more, I held her hand as we followed him.

He strode forward toward a different door than the one his sons were behind, but he paused with his hand on the handle.

Turning to stare at MaryCat, O’Donnelly soothed, “You won’t be hurt again, Mary Catherine. Do you understand me?”

Rex’s text suddenly made sense. “You asswipe. You brought him here!”

“He’s in there?”

The fear in her voice, sweet fuck, it wormed a venomous path inside me.

Senior’s brow furrowed. “He is. But he won’t harm you. I promise you.”

“This is ridiculous,” I grated out. “You can’t put her in the same room as her abuser!”

Even as MC was gulping, Senior settled his gaze on me. “In my territory, I am the judge, jury, and executioner—”

“Much good that’s done her.”

Senior’s hand shot out at that. One second, I was standing there, and the next, he had me pinned to the wall by my throat. “You need to learn respect, boy, and when to keep your fucking mouth shut,” he snarled, thumbs flexing around my windpipe.

Before I could retaliate, however, O’Donnelly Sr. tensed.

“I-I can’t l-let y-you d-do that, U-Uncle Aidan.”

My gaze darted to MC’s, and that was when I saw she had my Glock buried in the other man’s stomach and her hand was shaking like she was in the middle of an earthquake.

I didn’t know if the emotion coursing through me was pride or absolute fucking terror.

MC had just pulled a goddamn gun on the most dangerousandinsane man on the fucking East Coast.

“Now, don’t be silly, girl,” he warned, but his hold around my throat lessened.

She sucked in a breath. “He’s my husband. I-I won’t let you hurt him.”

Her words were stronger this time, the hold she had on the weapon firmer.

Now,pride started to whisper through me.

My husband.
