He grinned at me. “You know, I love your optimistic nature. You only just figured that out. That’s too fucking cute.”

I sniffed. “They’re the negative Nancies.”

“Anyway,” he drawled, “the club is going to be rolling in it. If it continues for as long as the Five Points have planned, we’re going to have to come up with a way of laundering millions.”

“Ask Storm.”

“One, it’s not down to me. Two, he’s VP. Of course, Rex will ask him for his opinion.”

“No, he goes quiet. Haven’t you noticed? He does it in private, so I can’t imagine he’s much better at a council meeting.”

“He’s losing hope,” Digger concurred. “Poor bastard.”

I bit my lip. “I wish I knew Keira.”

“She wouldn’t thank you for reaching out. She’s never integrated with the club.”

“I don’t either.”

“By comparison, you do. You’re here, ain’t you? Keira’s never attended a BBQ, a family potluck, or a party.”

“That’s sad.”

It also made me understand more of Rex’s ‘welcome speech.’

“Yeah,” he agreed. “But with how the clubwhores have been treating you, I’m not sure I judge her how I used to. They’re getting too big for their goddamn boots.”

“I can handle them.”

“You shouldn’t fucking have to. In fact, I don’t think you should come around here without me.”

“I don’t need a chaperone,” I groused indignantly.

“No, you need a keeper.” Though I huffed, he demanded, “You like him, don’t you?”

“Who?”

“Storm.”

I shrugged. “He’s a good guy, just lost.”

“Very lost.” He heaved a sigh. “We’re here.”

Blinking, I tipped my head back and stared up at the sky. My grin was wide as I saw the multiple shades streaking overhead, purples and reds, golds and oranges.

“It’s beautiful,” I murmured.

“Just like you.”

“You say the sweetest things,” I teased.

He huffed. “I’m trying.”

My humor faded. “You do more than try, Digger. I hope you know you make me very happy.”

He shot me a dopey grin. “Really?”

“Really.” I studied him. “No regrets?”
