Unless…

Unless I do something drastic.

My eyes land on the old CD player, sitting on top of the dresser. When I embarked on this mission, at the very start, Nero gave me a warning. A saying.

When you set out for revenge, dig two graves.

Because vengeance isn’t made by half-measures. It demands everything we have to give.

So the question facing me now, is just how far am I willing to go to destroy Sebastian?

What will I risk to see him suffer? How much can I sacrifice before I bring justice to Miles’ death?

I’ve already given him my body, my virginity… Already let him see a glimpse of my heart.

And if Sebastian thinks that I’ll stop there, that’s all I that I have to give…

He’s wrong.

He has no idea what I’m capable of.

I stride over to the CD player and open the tray. I pull out the CD inside, and break it, hard against the dresser.

It shatters, leaving a jagged edge.

I take a deep breath. I don’t have much time before he’ll return to say his goodbyes, to taunt me some more. I have to do this now.

My heart is pounding as I press the makeshift blade to my skin, deep enough to draw blood.

God help me.

I draw it across my wrists and pray.

SEBASTIAN

“So,she’s taking the medication willingly?” I ask as I scrawl my name on the dotted line of the admission documents. With no family to speak of, it was easy enough for me to present myself as Avery’s legal guardian—and I knew, the doctors here wouldn’t ask questions, as long as I made it worth their while.

“Yes,” Dr Reed leans back in his office chair, looking pleased now that I’ve transferred the massive facility fees into their accounts. “We had somedifficultiesat first, as you warned us we may, but she seems to have accepted her situation, for now, at least.”

“And she hasn’t said anything about me, or her… issues?” I probe.

Dr Reed gives a slimy chuckle. “Well, of course she’s still maintaining her story of being unfairly imprisoned, but the staff here are used to such delusions. They won’t pay any attention to her little stories; I’ll make sure of it. After all,” he adds, meaningfully, “You have been such a generous patron of our facility.”

I resist the urge to smash the man’s face into his antique desk. Dr. Reed is a sadistic bastard, but he would have to be to run a place like this. He wasn’t in charge back when my sister, Scarlett, was locked up here, I made sure everyone responsible for her suffering got exactly what they deserved, but apparently, there’s always a supply of morally devoid medical professionals, ready to use their power to keep people locked up against their will.

For a six-figure fee, of course.

“It’s been my pleasure,” I lie sliding the paperwork back to him. I never thought I’d be signing another check to these people after I finally won my sister’s release. Though I have to admit, I’m surprised that Avery is still refusing to break. I thought a couple of days in Larkspur would loosen her tongue for the truth, but she’s far more stubborn than I realized.

Or she’s telling the truth, and she really is innocent of any great deception…

I push aside the whispers of my conscience and get to my feet. “As I said, I’ll be travelling for business for the next while. I expect regular updates on Avery’s condition and care.”

“Don’t worry,” Dr. Reed replies immediately, walking me to the door. “She will be under constant supervision. And as for her privileges…” he gives a nasty laugh, “Those are entirely at your discretion. If you like, we can have her confined to her room 24/7, even adjust her diet and bathroom access. Whatever attitude she arrived with, she won’t keep it for long. Our staff has ways ofcorrectingany rebellious behavior.”

Anger surges, hot. In an instant, I have the doctor backed against the wall. “Nobody lays so much as a finger on Avery.” I growl, glaring him dead in the eyes. “And if they do, they better be prepared to answer to me. Do you understand?”
