I quickly pick up my spoon. “Oh no, it’s delicious.”

Across the table, Bianca says something, and Sebastian laughs loudly.

Violetta follows my gaze. “It’s good to see him so happy. I’m sure you are to credit for that.”

“He and Bianca seem close,” I say carefully.

Violetta nods, still smiling. “You know about the crash, of course?” she asks.

Wait, what?

I nod, keeping my expression neutral, even as my mind races.

Violetta continues, not knowing I’m in the dark. “The accident was hard for them,” she says. “Both of them losing their fathers like that in one night, so young. But Sebastian reached out to Bianca when it was over, and that’s what brought them together, connected in their grief.”

Holy shit!

I try not to show my shock as her words sink in.

Bianca’s father was killed in the crash, too?

I remember mentions of another vehicle, the one Patrick Wolfe hit head-on, but I’ve never seen any details of the death. I’d assumed everyone in the second car was fine.

Why wasn’t this headline news?

“He’s been so supportive,” Violetta continues, oblivious. “Like a brother. He’s always been there for her, he even funded her education and study abroad here in Italy. I have to thank him for that too,” she adds with a smile. “Since it’s how we met. And now, she’s so happy, running the foundation, making such an impact, in memory of the ones they’ve lost. We are very lucky to have him as a part of our lives.”

“That’s… amazing,” I say faintly.

And it is. I’m learning so much new information about Sebastian tonight, and I watch him carefully for the rest of the evening, until at last, people begin to say their goodbyes and leave. Bianca and Violetta show us to the door, urging Sebastian to extend his trip. “Or at least, come back soon,” Bianca insists. “You too, Avery.”

Sebastian just smiles. “We’ll see.”

Bianca pauses, her hand on his arm. “And I meant what I said.” She tells him cryptically. “You should call me if it gets too hard, this year.”

I wonder what she means, but Sebastian doesn’t explain, and I don’t want to pry. Besides, I already have enough to process, as we drive the winding hillside road back down to his place by the water.

“I had fun tonight,” I venture, as Sebastian opens the car door and helps me out. “Your friends are lovely.”

He smiles at me, smoldering. “Not as lovely as you…”

He kisses me, soft and surprisingly tender. I sway into his embrace, my confusion melting away the moment he touches me.

Whoever Sebastian is with his friends and family, I know who he is when I’m in his arms.

Sensual. Masterful.Mine.

He pulls back and takes me by the hand, leading me through the dark, empty house and up to his bedroom. Moonlight shines through the open drapes, reflecting off the lake outside, and there’s a hushed feeling in the air between us now. A quiet intensity in every glance and touch.

We don’t speak, as Sebastian pulls me into his arms again. Somehow, it feels like words aren’t necessary as he unzips the back of my dress, letting it fall to the floor at my feet.

I step out of my boots, kicking them to the side as I move to unbutton his shirt. The second his bare skin is exposed, I’m running my hands over his chest and tracing the lines of his torso, reveling in the feel of him, and the way he inhales a sharp breath at my touch.

Sebastian dips his head and kisses along the side of my neck, making me shudder. He unhooks my bra, freeing my breasts, and then he’s on his knees, lavishing me with his tongue.

“Oh…” My moan echoes in the darkness, and I bury my hands in his hair, holding him to me as I whimper. He takes my nipple into his mouth, each dragging pull of his mouth sending waves of pleasure through me, all the way to my core.

As if he knows just how much I want him, Sebastian hooks his fingers under the sides of my panties and slides them down my shaking thighs. He breathes against me, hot, as I quiver.
