“To answer your question,” I pulled the white coffee cup up to my lips. “Gisella was my first everything. My first love. I would go to the ends of the Earth for her. ”

Nora reached for the orange juice sitting near her computer. “It makes sense for Mr. DeLuca to send you to find her then.”

“Oh?”

“He has a million people working for him…but it had to be you. He knows that you won’t rest until the mission is complete.” She offered a smile.

Nora stood and I noticed her outfit for the first time as she pulled her laptop into a bag and onto her shoulder. She was dressed neatly in a soft nude colored skirt, white blouse, and brown heels. I recalled this to be the usual attire that I was used to seeing her in.

“I took the liberty of getting a car for us,” she offered a smile, the dishes in her hand.

“Us?”

“I’m a woman, Mason.”

“Oh, I’m aware,” I smirked.

Nora rolled her eyes again.

“And, as a woman I’ll notice certain things that you might not. So, whether I like it or not …I’m your shadow until we find Mr. DeLuca’s sister. Meet you out front in fifteen minutes.”

She placed her dishes on top of the trash can and I listened to her footsteps falling away. My eyes tracked the sway of her hips in the nude colored skirt. The clicking of her heels carrying her towards the lobby restroom.

Nora if nothing else, was a creature of habit. Exactly fifteen minutes later she joined me outside while I was smoking a cigarette. Noting all the people moving around, and how nice of a day it was, I snuffed the cigarette out slightly embarrassed she’d seen me smoking. She didn’t say anything about it and a blacked out SUV pulled up to take us to Gisella’s residence. My brain began to shift, the logical side of me taking over and the dark voice quieted even though it hinted that it still wanted to fuck Nora’s brains out.

We rode in a sufficient silence, Nora typing away on her phone while I watched the scenery go by outside the window. We passed by a few farms, people walking cows close to the road. It felt as though I’d stepped into a Vincent Van Gogh painting.

“Doesn’t it bother you?” Nora asked just as we were nearing the place.

“What?”

She glanced over. “That she would disappear like this. Was she not keeping in touch with Mr. DeLuca? I’ve worked for him for a while and she’s never really come up…I mean he would have me drop the occasional birthday card in the mail for her.”

I shrugged. “What Sebastian does and who he keeps up with doesn’t concern me.”

Nora chose this moment to smirk and the dark voice in my head liked it. “With her being your first everything…”

“Nora,” I gave a warning that seemed to vibrate through the car.

She gave me a look. “Mason…”

Goddamn, why does she have to say my name like that….

I wanted her to be screaming it. I could have fucked her against the back seat of the car while the driver watched and I wouldn’t’ have cared who saw. A chuckle escaped me.

“Don’t push me,” I told her as the car came to a stop.

We got out and surveyed the area. I noted that there were a couple of apartment-style buildings that maybe housed a few families. Potted plants growing tomatoes and flowers surrounded us. The creaking of a blue door off to my left caught my attention and instantly I was on alert.

I was mostly always on alert.

An elderly man hobbled out, with a cane and stepped forward, giving a wave and that was when I noticed that Nora, with a smile plastered on her face was about to start for him.

“Wait, you have no idea…”

She gave me a frown. “I called ahead and let Mr. Corisini know that we’d be coming…”

Nora stalked off and started shaking the man’s hand and speaking to him in Italian.
