ChapterSix

Nora

We’d ridden in silence all the way back from our little adventure. The laptop sat in my lap the entire way back like a boulder weighing me down. An eagerness to get it turned on was ripping through me as my fingers had rapped against the gray metallic lid.

I didn’t care about finding Gisella.

Mr. DeLuca didn’t pay me to care about his sister.

No. He paid me to keep his life in order and this was just one more thing to reign in and make it submit to my will.

The driver dropped us off at the front of the hotel before driving off. Mason and I took the elevator up to our rooms and not a sound passed between us.

I was okay with silence.

Honestly, I didn’t want him asking any more questions about high school. I couldn’t believe that I’d let that slip out of my mouth about seeing Gisella get busted with coke that one time all those years ago.

Naturally, he hadn’t remembered that I even existed.

Nerdy Nora,I thought with a smirk.

Juggling the laptop, I found the slim green key card I’d slipped into the small pocket of my skirt and opened my room door. Mason moved quietly into his own room and I closed my door. Letting out a breath, I tossed Gisella’s computer beside my own on the desk, wincing when it made a clattering sound.

“Damn girl,” I breathed. “Gotta be more careful.”

Fishing in my laptop bag, I pulled out the universal charger and plugged up the other computer and then stared at it. An orange light began to flash signaling that it was receiving electricity. Satisfied, I pulled out my phone.

Rain had sent a text asking about Italy.

Please tell me you’re having fun…

Going over to the window, I stared down at the spot where I’d seen the couple the night before. A chill went down my spine as I thought about how close Mason had been while we intruded on the couple unsuspectingly.

It’s a work trip. No fun.

No need in telling her that you’ve spent way too much time with the Horseman of Death….

You’re so dull,my sister wrote. At least go out and get a drink.

They have drinks at the hotel.I typed back, she could be a bossy heffa sometimes.

Do I need to fly there?

Fly where?... Bitch, bye! You know you’re broke! Part of me danced in place because I knew I’d get under skin with those comments.

She sent back a middle finger emoji showing just how annoyed she was. My sister was only broke because she’d taken all of her money that she’d saved up and invested in The Siren, her hair salon. In fact, I was her biggest client because she kept my twenty inches styled and cute.

Well if I had a boss like Sebastian DeLuca…

Gross, don’t go there. He’s like….

Don’t say old because I saw his fine ass a few weeks ago. You need to tell his fiancé to come in here so I can do her hair. Her kitchen a lil tore up from all that cheap ass box hair dye she be using.

My mouth dropped wide open at my sister’s words. Rain could be a hard ass sometimes.

Stop. Brie is so nice to me, she’s a genuine sweetheart.

A sweetheart who needs a hot oil treatment, she replied swiftly.
