My male siblings stood up and shook Mason’s hand and Rain just grinned at me like a lunatic. My mother and father kept passing me looks and smiling widely.

Mason then pulled up an extra chair beside me and finally I turned, my fork in hand ready to use it as a spear.

“What are you doing here,” I whispered tightly.

“I’m here to protect you, Darlin,” he whispered back and then leaned over and kissed my cheek casually.

My coochie purred just a little bit and I squeezed my legs shut.

In front of my family….

This shit was literally gold for them. The minute I left this house they were going to talk about this till the cows came home. This was ammunition for embarrassment for the rest of my life. This was going to be a thing now, because I was not only the baby but I’d never brought anyone home before.

Not that I’d brought Mason Zacharra’s ass home in the first place but that would not matter to my family.

I wanted to die right there on the spot.

ChapterSeventeen

Mason

An hour after arriving at Mr. and Mrs. Ellis-Allan’s, Nora rode away with me on the back of my motorcycle. I’d felt like she wanted to stab me throughout the entire dinner but she’d managed to keep her cool. The Corsican had practically purred like a giant cat while her arms had been around my body.

Her parents liked me just enough that they didn’t give me too much shit when I practically kidnapped their daughter under the guise of needing her help for a work project. I wasn’t sure they’d bought that part exactly but they’d sent me off with her.

The food had been good too. The barbequed chicken that had been served was practically falling off of the bone. Her mother’s cinnamon bun cake was the single best desert in Seattle and I’d shoot anyone who said otherwise.

I hadn’t had good home cooked meal like that in nearly twelve years.

Now, we were sitting in Nora’s apartment, and she had a look on her face as I started looking around at her things. There were plenty of soft pinks and nude colors occupying the space. From where I was standing in the center of her living room, I could see that Nora’s bedroom door was slightly ajar just offing a hint of soft pinks to please my eyes.

Go find out,the Corsican whispered.

The woman had a DVD collection that could rival any cinephile. One television series caught my eye because of the various color.

One Tree Hill.

I stopped counting after seeing there was over five seasons.

Turning, I found Nora in her small kitchen, putting the lilies into a vase containing fresh tap water. She then sat them on the counter top closest to the window so that they could get some light.

The Corsican had insisted on the lilies. He’d thought they were pretty.

As if feeling my eyes on her, she looked up and made eye contact. “So, you invade my family’s space to um…what was it again?”

Coming over, I leaned against her counter top. “To protect you.”

“From what exactly?” She stepped back taking some of her warmth with her.

“Something big and scary,” I sighed.

“I mean unless the fucking boogey man is about to start knocking on the door, I think I’m safe.”

Rubbing my hands through my hair, I didn’t know how to bring myself to admit that that might be the exact case.

“I really did need your help with something,” I stated quietly.

She pushed the glasses she was wearing up onto the bridge of her nose. “Help with what exactly?”
