I cup her face in my hands, wiping her tears away as quickly as they fall. “Wendee, it’s ok. I’m here and I’m not letting you go to Hell. I’m not going to let you go, period. I refuse to let you go and you can’t change my mind or fight me on this. I’m nothing without you, Wendee. This life is nothing if you're not in it with me.”

I lean in and kiss her. She sobs and tries to pull away from me, but I hold on to her tightly. I’m not letting her out of my grip or out of my damn sight ever again.

“Look at me, Wendee.” She slowly brings her tear-filled eyes up to mine. “You’re ok. We’re ok. And we’re going to live a long and wonderful life together. You and I. Do you hear me?”

She swallows again and nods, then her eyes go wide as she seems to take in my wings for the first time. “Sinn,” her voice barely more than a whisper, “you’re wings…but, how?”

I shake my head. “I’m not sure. When I woke up and felt them, I thought for sure I had already lost you. I thought you had crossed through the gates and I’d be lost forever. It would be worse than the realm of darkness if I had to live even one day without you. But you’re here, you’re safe,” I pull her back into my chest, holding her tighter than is probably comfortable for her.

“But if I don’t go, won’t you lose your wings again?”

“I don’t give a fuck about these wings, Wendee. All I care about is you. Being with you. I love you, Wendee. I mean it when I say I’m nothing without you.”

“Love.” Hook’s voice interrupts us.

I loosen my hold on Wendee so we can both turn and face my brother. “What about love, Brother?”

“That’s what made you whole again. That’s why you have your wings even though Wendee’s soul didn’t go to Hell. Love, Brother," Hook laughs heartily, a huge smile splitting across his face. "Love is the strongest thing in any realm, and the love you both have for each other trumps all else. You are both willing to sacrifice everything for the other person therefore, you don’t have to sacrifice anything at all.”

“What are you saying?” Wendee asks. Her cute, confused face stares at him with eyes full of hope.

He laughs again as he approaches us and grabs my shoulder, giving me shake. “I’m saying that I never thought I’d ever see the day where this little shit loves anyone. It’s truly a damn miracle and you both deserve this happiness.” He turns to face the bow of the ship. “Smee! Change course! Sail straight back to The Land of Never! We have some stowaway souls on board that need a ride home!” Hook pats me on the back and then chucks Wendee under the chin. “Welcome to the dysfunctional family, Dee. I’ll leave this outcast in your capable hands.” He whistles as he strides across his deck toward thewheel.

Wendee and I stand at the front of the ship. Her back is pressed against my chest and my arms are wrapped around her as we watch the waves pass us by on our way back to land. To The Land of Never, where I never have to live without Wendee ever again.

Once we dock, I take some time to fill Hook in on Tink’s situation. “She’s forever banished from these shores. If she steps even one foot on this sand, I will rip her soul from her body and feed her to Serene.”

“Serene is already going to be after her. She made quite the hefty deal with her when she was scheming.”

“That’s her burden to bear,” I say, not one ounce of sympathy in me. “There’s always a price to pay for your actions.”

“Indeed,” Hook agrees.

“She’ll spend the rest of eternity ferrying souls to the Afterlife and fighting Serene’s call. You know, she could take your place, Brother. You could go back home.”

I watch his reaction closely. I see the spark of hope in his eyes at the thought of going home but he’s still hesitating. “There’s no reason for you stay and keep an eye on me anymore. For the first time in my lie, I’m good. I’mmorethan good,” I say, as a huge smile spreads across my face.

Hook throws his head back and laughs joyously. “You love sick fool. I feel sorrier for you now than ever before.” He winks.

I laugh and then I’m suddenly yanked, once again, into his bear hold. As he pulls away, he grabs my face in his hands. “You deserve this life, Sinn. Don’t fuck it up.”

I nod, words seeming to allude me in this emotionally charged moment that I’ve never had with my brother. He nods in response, no doubt feeling the same way, and then I watch him walk down the deck and onto his ship. His voice carriers on the wind as he yells orders to his crew. I have no doubt that he’s going to teach Tink everything she needs to know about the job and, once he’s comfortable that his ship and crew are in good hands, he’ll finally return home. Where he belongs.

I stand on the shore, watching them depart, until I can no longer see the ship on the horizon. I turn and head back to land. Wendee is sitting on a bench where she’s been patiently waiting for me to handle my business. She stands when she sees me and my feet move faster. I’m eager to have her in my arms again.

“Everything taken care of?”

“Yes.”

I wrap one hand around her waist, pulling her body into mine as my other hand sinks into her hair and grips it tightly, pulling her head back. Here eyes fill with heat and her lips part on a gasp. Fuck, I love how responsive she is to me, how much she trusts me implicitly, and I can’t wait to spend an eternity learning and exploring every single thing about her.

“What’s that look?” She asks, with a voice low and raspy with seduction.

“I’m just contemplating whether I’m going to be punishing you for fucking leaving me while I slept, again,” I growl, “or rewarding you for loving me so fiercely you were willing to accept an eternity in Hell for me.”

“Hmmm,” she contemplates, as her devious little hand slides over my already aching cock. “How about both?”

A satisfied hum rumbles through my chest as I scoop her in my arms and stretch out my wings behind me. “Let’s go home.”

EPILOGUE

Wendee

There’s really not much left to say except that I’ve still never found a good man, but I have found a man that’s only good to me and, well, that’s all I’ve ever really wanted.
