“You’re impossible.”

“But you love me,” I point out.

She gives me a smile—so I know I’m not entirely in trouble.

“For whatever unknown reason, I do.”

I haven’t gotten tired of hearing her say how she feels about me. I hope I never do.

We might be unexplainable, but what we have is real, and I’m thankful for whatever force out there put us in each other’s path. I don’t pretend to know where the future will lead us, and I’ve always been a live in the moment kind of guy, but right here, right now, it’s safe to say I’m happier than I’ve ever been. And I think, no Iknow, I make Mia happy too—and her happiness?

It’s the best damn reward in the entire fucking universe.

“Fuck, you look hot,”I groan when Mia opens the door. “Forget going out. We’re staying in.”

She laughs, stepping outside. “It’s Friday night, and you promised me arealdate even though I said I didn’t need fancy. Now, here I am dressed up, hair done, makeup on—that means we’re going out.”

“I don’t know why I don’t listen to you,” I complain.

She passes me and starts down the stairs. I can’t see the way her dress hugs her ass since her winter coat hangs down long enough to hide it, but I know it’s got to begluedto her curvy body. Tonight might kill me. I want nothing more than to grab her, drag her back inside, and show her exactly how much I love her.

“One day you’ll figure out I’m always right,” she sing-songs looking at me coyly over her shoulder.

“Fucking vixen,” I whisper under my breath, trudging after her.

I lead her outside to Cannon’s car and open the passenger door for her.

She raises a brow as she climbs inside.

“What?” I defend. “I can be a gentleman.”

“Where are you taking me?”

“Ah, ah, ah—I’m not telling.”

She crosses her arms and mock pouts. “Come on, tell me.”

“Nope,” I say adamantly.

“You suck.”

“No, you do baby. I lick.”

“Oh my God,” she sighs. “There’s no winning with you.”

A few minutes later I park the car.

“Your hotel? You brought me to your hotel?” she asks in disbelief. “No wonder you wouldn’t tell me where you were taking me. This is anticlimactic.”

“How you doubt me.” I shake my head. “Trust me, this will be worth all the effort you put into your outfit, hair, and makeup.”

“Better be,” she grumbles, and I crack a grin.

I hand the keys over to the valet, since we’ll need the car to get back to her place. It didn’t make sense to park in the garage tonight.

I take her hand, leading her up the stairs into the lobby. A fire roars in the fireplace and a few people linger around chatting and hanging out in the bar.
