Her eyes widen in shock.

“Thanks, Dad, but … I’d rather pay for it on my own. If I do find a place. If I even want to move out,” she adds.

He shrugs. “The offer still stands.”

“Why?” she ventures to ask. “You and Mom have always pushed us to be independent, to not rely on your money to solve everything.”

“Because,” he answers, “you’ll always be my baby girl and I want you to be safe. A nicer place downtown can be pricey. I’d rather cover the cost, knowing you’re in a good area, than make you pay and be in a shitty rundown, cockroach infested apartment so I’m up all night worrying.”

She laughs at that. “Okay, your argument makes sense. I’ll consider your offer then.”

He tips his head.

She smiles at each of us and leaves the room.

The urge to follow her is strong, strong enough I nearly fall off the couch fighting it.

But I know looking like a desperate puppy in front of her father isn’t for the best.

Luckily, my turn to head into the booth comes next, and for the first time I can’t help but notice Hayes always times it so I’m in the booth while Mia is here—at least most of the time.

Sneaky bastard.

After a long dayin the studio, we head to the hotel for the evening. I didn’t get much of a chance to talk to Mia in the studio, but since she flashed me a few smiles I think we’re okay and she hasn’t completely freaked out about last night.

The last thing I want is for her to regret it.

In the suite, we all head to our separate rooms. It’s not late yet, so I figure we’ll end up watching a movie or playing some video games.

Tearing my shirt over my head, I whirl around when my door opens.

“We need to talk.” Cannon eases the door shut behind him, purposely blocking it with his body so I can’t try to weasel out and run away from him.

I drop the t-shirt on the bed. “What do you mean?”

“I’m not stupid. I have eyes. So does everyone else. What the fuck are you doing sneaking around with Mia? Are you that determined to throw away everything we’ve worked for? Do you not care at all? Did you fuck her? Have youbeenfucking her?”

“Don’t.” I hold a finger up between us, teeth gnashed together. “Don’t you fucking talk about her like that.”

His eyes widen in surprise. “You like her.”

Hands on my hips, I shake my head in defeat. “Yeah, I do.”

Cannon crosses his arms over his chest. “Being with her is a huge risk, not just for you, but us too.”

“I know,” I admit. The last thing I’ve wanted to do is put my friends, my band, into this predicament.

“Hayes is protective of her, but also pretty blind too because he doesn’t think any of us are stupid enough to try anything with her.”

I crack a smile, easing up now that I realize he’s not as pissed off as he initially was. “So, I’m the stupid one then?”

“Yeah, you are,” he says seriously. At least he’s not sugar coating it. “You said you like her … do you mean, you like her for fun? For now?”

“Aw, Dad, are you asking me what my intentions are?” I joke, trying to lighten the mood.

“Just answer the fucking question, Wilder.”
