Fucking amateurs.

“What the fuck did you do?”

“I didn’t do anything. All I’m trying to do is take money from point A and deposit it into point B, exactly like you said to do.”

“Bullshit,” he growls. “Let me see what the fuck you’re up to.” It takes a minute for Hector to fold up his tall body and drop to the floor, but he manages. Finally. “Show me,” he barks.

“Are you sure? I mean, this isn’t the same as checking online banking.”

“Just fucking show me.”

“All right, jeez.” I bite back a smile and tamp down the fear that’s making my heart race like a motherfucker. This is serious, and even though my actions are more than a little reckless, I refuse to die without fighting with everything I have.

“Fucking do it!”

With a heavy sigh, I go back to the Cayman Islands bank’s website and attempt to log in. “See? Access is denied. Looks like someone changed the password or closed the account.”

Hector grabs the back of my neck and squeezes so hard my eyes water. “Someone? You did this, didn’t you bitch?”

“How could I?”

“The same way you stole the money.”

I try to shake my head, but I can barely move.

“Someone with bank credentials like a password would have to do that. You should be looking at your own crew.”

He shoves me toward the floor, but I throw my hands out to protect my face.

“Don’t try that shit with me.” He throws a heavily booted foot at my midsection simply because he’s frustrated and because he can.

“I’m not,” I grunt through the pain. “The dark web profile connected to this account is blocked too.”

“Fuck!”

“Look,” I point at the screen where big red letters flash on and off that read, REJECTED: ACCESS DENIED. “I can’t do that because I don’t have access.”

“Bullshit,” he roars again, aiming a kick and missing. This only pisses him off even more. He starts to pace back and forth again, only this time he’s also talking to himself, giving me plenty of time to access more Iron Kings profiles and accounts to gather everything I need to make these fuckers pay, whether I’m alive to see it or not.

“I can transfer it to one of your other accounts,” I tell him softly, going hard on the scared little girl act. “It’ll take a few minutes to transfer the cash to crypto and send it to those accounts, but it can be done.”

“No! Goddammit, no! I want cash,” he says with wild eyes, his fury growing. “Find a fucking way, or I’ll just kill you right now and have someone else do what needs doing.”

Just in case his point isn’t clear, Hector pulls out his gun, a long-barreled pistol with a shiny black grip on the handle.

As scared as I am of the gun aiming between my eyes, the threats are getting tiresome. But I let my eyes slide to the right as a solemn reminder that Hector’s threats aren’t idle.

“Fine,” I say quickly. I zip together all the files I find, email them, and then save them on a hidden partition I created to hide from the computer’s owner.

Just in case.

My heart’s pounding so hard I’m getting a chest ache. The stakes have never been this high. According to Hector, I’m dead as soon as this task is done, so with every minute that passes, my tricks to stall for time become less and less effective.

I push my fingers to move faster to get everything done before I reveal it all to Hector, thankful he’s put the gun back in his holster.

“Okay,” I say after a few long, tense minutes of silence. “All done.”

His dark brows dip into a frown. “What’s all done? Exactly, bitch. Tell me.”
