“What is?”

“It’s just…I don’t…”

He took a step forward. “Please, I beg you. Tell me what’s happened?”

“I don’t usually get so, um, feisty.”

Press smiled. “Well done, then.”

“Don’t make fun of me.”

When he reached up and caressed my cheek, I stopped biting my lip without him needing to say anything.

“I would never poke fun at you. I was completely sincere in my praise.”

I squared my shoulders and took a deep breath. “I can’t afford a therapist that isn’t covered by my insurance.”

“Please be seated.” He pulled out a stool on the other side of the counter and motioned for me to sit down. “I know this isn’t easy for you, and I respect everything you’ve said.” He sat beside me. “My sole concern is that you’re able to heal. And again, I know this is not easy for you to accept, but money is not an issue for me, Luisa. Please, let me do this for you.”

I teared up again and dabbed my eyes with his handkerchief. “Why?”

“I made you a promise to do everything in my power to make sure you would be okay, yes?”

“Yes.”

“Then, allow me to keep that promise. For now, just let me take care of the things you need. And someday in the future, if I need your help, I’ve no doubt you will do the same for me.”

“I will.”

Press smiled and tilted his head to look into my eyes. “Promise?”

“I promise.”

“May I contact Dr. Benedict?” he asked.

“Yes, please.”

“Hey,” said Beau, joining me in the kitchen after Press left to make the call. “Everything okay?”

“It is now,” I said.

“Excellent. Does this mean you’re up for a ride on the beach?”

“I may have an appointment with a therapist today, but either before or after, I’d love to.”

“Love to what?” Press asked, returning to the kitchen.

“Luisa and I are throwing a leg over later.” Beau winked at me.

“Are you, now?” Press asked, looking at me.

“If that means riding horses on the beach, then, yes. I did tell him I might have an appointment, though.”

“And you do. Dr. Benedict will be here at three this afternoon. Will that work?”

“Perfectly,” Beau responded before I could. “We’ll ride, followed by a picnic.”

“Is that okay?” I asked Press.
