“Hindsight is blind,” I said, repeating one of her favorite expressions. My mother didn’t believe in looking at the past with regret.

He nodded. “That’s exactly what she would’ve said.”

After landing the plane, I pulled it into the small hangar where I kept it stored and took our bags into the house.

“Shall we head straight to Butler Ranch?” my father asked.

I was elated he had before I got the chance, given only a half hour’s drive separated Luisa and me.

“Sorcha saidto come straight to the main residence when we arrive,” I said, reading the message Jaicon sent shortly before we pulled through the ranch’s gates.

“I can feel your happiness, Press. It fills my heart with joy.”

It was, of course, tinged with regret, but it was unnecessary for me to say that to my father.

“You’re going to love Luisa and her family, Dad.”

“I’ve no doubt, son.”

LUISA

“Ugh,” I groaned inwardly, checking the clock fifteen minutes after I had the last time. It felt like the minutes were dragging when all I wanted to do was thank Sorcha and Bradley for once again hosting a crowd of people for dinner, then race over to the cottage where I was staying to wait for Press’ call.

“What’s wrong?” Seraphina asked.

“I’m tired. It feels more like ten o’clock than seven.”

“I hear you. If I sat down right now, I’d probably fall asleep. It gets dark so early this time of year.” She looked around the room. “Where’s Jada?”

“She left earlier. She said to call if I needed her to come back, but I told her I’d be fine.”

“Will you?”

“So far, so good.”

She put her arm around my shoulders and squeezed. “I’m proud of you, sis.”

I didn’t want to admit the only reason I wasn’t close to crawling out of my own skin was because Press and I had agreed to talk again tonight.

“I would love to know the story there,” Seraphina said, motioning to the other side of the room, where Tryst and Jaicon stood, chatting.

“That reminds me. What do you know about Zin and Jada?”

Her eyes scrunched. “Nothing. Why?”

I told her about the odd exchange I’d witnessed between them earlier.

Before she could respond, we heard a knock at the front door. When Sorcha raced over and pulled it open, I gasped as my eyes met Press’.

“Hello, pet,” he said when I rushed over, stopping right before I embarrassed myself by hugging him with all my might. “Luisa, I’d like you to meet my father, Martin. Dad, this is Luisa.”

“It’s a pleasure to finally meet you,” said the man who I imagined Press would look identical to once he reached his father’s age. They had the same deep-blue eyes, neatly trimmed facial hair, and similar height and builds. While lean, like a runner, I’d seen Press shirtless, and he had no shortage of muscle. Maybe he wasn’t quite as buff as Beau, but his strength was evident.

“What are you doing here?” I asked after we awkwardly cheek-kissed.

“My father and I decided we could do with a visit to Seahorse.”
