She heard the door creak behind her, and she turned. He held keys and smiled wickedly at her. “I’ve got the location, and I’ll direct the flight.”

She raised an eyebrow at him. “Please know I’m still new to flying, so not too fast. I’ll vomit.”

He smirked, stepping off the porch. He started to round the house, and her eyes widened at what he had. She’s seen the electric bikes before, but she hadn’t ridden one yet. The idea had her nervous. She swallowed.

“Don’t be scared.” He laughed and rounded to open his side. “It’s easier than it looks.”

She glared at him. “I wasn’t joking about vomiting.”

He laughed. “I won’t make you sick, I promise. Now let’s go, or you won’t have much time to see anyone else or the other animals.”

She climbed onto the bike. She took deep breaths and told herself it wasn’t all that different from Earth. Until they lifted off the ground.

DEIMOS

Deimos had brought around two single-seater electric transport bikes from his massive garage, where he stored a curated collection of vehicles. Ferraris sat next to hypercars from the first generation of Nova Aurora’s electric era.

“Today, you’ll be learning how to drive this old girl.”

He patted the seat of the smaller electric bike outfitted with a blue leather seat. It had smooth, automated controls. His own bike was racing-class with manual controls and an engine modeled after Formula One.

“Gerri told me about these. I didn’t think I’d be riding one. Are they safe?”

“Perfectly. Plus, I’m here. Nothing bad can happen to you. Electric bike transport is the fastest way to get around, and I have a bunch of farms in mind to take you to.”

He had already changed into his riding clothes, and he handed her some silvery fabric.

“You’ll want to change into these,” Deimos said.

She eyed the sumptuous material as she turned it over in her hands. He imagined her pulling off her jeans and T-shirt to reveal soft, creamy skin before zipping herself into the glove-like ensemble that was customary for warp-speed bike transport trips.

“Will they fit?” Hope asked, looking at the unfamiliar garment as if trying to translate a new language.

As they walked inside, he replied, “The beauty of clothes on Nova Aurora is that you can transform them into anything you’d like them to be, and they conform to the size and mood of the wearer.”

She returned from the spare bedroom wearing a chic pantsuit the color of cornflowers, with a braided knot crossing over on the garment’s high neck. The sleeves draped down like lotus petals.

Deimos tried in vain to conceal his intense attraction. His eyes glowed with soft fire as his dragon burned inside him. He had just imagined her slipping the soft material onto her body, and just as quickly, he was imagining tearing it from her with his claws.

“Does it look okay?” Hope asked.

“Angels would be jealous. Demons too.”

Finding his fated mate was both nothing and everything that he had imagined. He had known to expect the mystical pull everyone tells you about. What he had not expected was the magic he felt every time a new piece of information revealed destiny’s reasons for choosing this one person as his.

“Are we ready to get this party started?” Hope asked Deimos as she pulled on her helmet, which had transformed into pink and blue paisley.

“Let’s move.”

“Great. So how do you use this thing?” she said, motioning to the bike.

He was impressed by her fearlessness in learning and quick mastery of the controls. She occasionally had to remember to slow down when she sped in front of Deimos since she didn’t know the way.

Soaring in the lower atmosphere, they had views of whirling galaxies above them and the placid, gentle planet below like a pair of celestial bifocals.

The lush purple forest of Dragos abutted the yellow ribbon of the Ice Mountains, marking the dividing line with the wolf shifters’ territory. From the air, they could see a pack of wolf shifters bounding along the peaks. Deimos let out a gentle puffball of flame as a friendly hello to his neighbors. They howled in brotherly return.
