She held her face in her hands and shook her head in shame. He pulled her into his chest tightly, comforting her.

She leaned back from the embrace, releasing her face from her hands. He looked down at her and grinned slightly as he shook his head.

“I’m sorry, Charlie, I didn’t mean …”

“No,” she looked at him with admiration. “I’m sorry.”

“Let me take you back to your room.”

She nodded, not saying or trusting her words.

They rode in silence, and she felt a tension rise in her chest. When they stopped outside her hotel door, she looked at his slightly parted lips and alluring gaze. He ran his fingers through her hair and gazed at her once more before kissing her lightly.

He pulled away, and Charlie tapped her key card to the lock. The door clicked, and she stepped inside, dragging Hammer with her even though she wasn’t sure what she wanted from him yet.

After the door closed, she listened to their breaths accelerate as his hand pressed against her lower back, hauling her into him. Her hand wrapped around his neck and pulled his face closer to hers.

He ran his fingers down her neck, teasing her with the light touch. She smiled and closed her eyes, feeling his tempting presence become overwhelming. She inhaled the sweet scent of cedar and mahogany of his cologne.

The adventures they had taken on together had formed a bond between them. The adrenaline that surged through her when she first flew with him, the fight he won with the leopard shifters, the countless times he sacrificed his life to save hers; at this moment, she knew she had found something special.

“Hammer,” she whispered breathlessly.

“Yes, Charlie,” he responded lowly.

“I want to,” she said, opening her eyes and locking in with his gaze.

“Charlie.”

“No,” she said, pressing a finger to his soft lips. “I do. I didn’t with Randy. I couldn’t.” She paused and glanced at his chiseled jawline and intense stare. “But it’s different with you.”

“Different?” he asked, grinning.

She slapped his chest playfully and smiled. “Yes.” She laughed before her face became more serious. “With you, I feel like I’m home.”

He grinned again and swept her off her feet, carrying her to the bed. She laughed as he laid her down on the hotel sheets.

“You’re my home, too,” he remarked, kissing her forehead.

Charlie weaved her hands through his blond locks as he began to kiss down her chest to her stomach, slowly lifting her shirt. She pressed his head lightly against her torso, begging for more.

She leaned up as he lifted her shirt off. He bent down to kiss her as she fumbled with the buttons on his.

Hammer ripped his shirt open without breaking the kiss and took it off, throwing it on the hotel floor. He leaned his weight on Charlie, holding her head in his hand.

She pressed her body against his and used her legs to pull his hips down onto hers. He moaned softly, and she kissed his neck as he reached under her and unhooked her bra.

Her bra hit the floor, and his hand moved to her breasts. Charlie gasped as he began toying with her nipples. Her nerves tingled as he moved his mouth from her lips to her breasts, slowly licking his way around them.

She moaned and placed her hand on his back, digging her nails into him. He moved to the other breast and began sucking on it, flicking his tongue back and forth. He blew cold air onto it, and Charlie giggled.

“Does that feel good?” he asked, glancing at her through locks of hair falling over his face.

She nodded, unable to mutter an answer. He leaned up, unbuckled his pants, and Charlie stared at his defined abs. Their contour was perfect, almost statue-like. He looked at her body and exhaled, shaking his head.

“You’re something else, you know that?” he whispered.

She chuckled and slid off her pants. “I try to be,” she responded.
