I take a deep breath and sigh, “They left, and I threw up on the bed. I was so scared, and in that moment I knew I must run. They would be back to finish what they started, so I made my plans.”

“How did you escape?”

“The next day, I begged one of the soldiers to take me into town. That wasn’t uncommon and as he took a leak, I jumped on the first bus I could out of there. He never even knew I’d gone because I left my phone in the toilet and escaped through the window.”

Turning to Malik, I smile for the first time and whisper, “I did it. I ran and they haven’t found me yet.”

As Malik strokes my back, it’s good to tell someone what really happened. What Diana is really like and why I can’t go back. It’s the next part of my tale that worries me, and I wonder just how much I can tell him without getting myself in a deeper load of shit than I’m in already.

CHAPTER15

MALIK

When I hear Eliza’s story it doesn’t surprise me. Nothing surprises me anymore and all I’m left with is a burning hatred for another father who should have been better. Then there’s her stepmother. A woman with her own agenda who played them off against one another. I make a mental note to do my own investigation on the woman and her brother, who appear to be morally corrupt. However, it doesn’t explain what happens next and as Eliza’s stomach growls; I reach for the intercom.

“We need food. Bring it to the rear cabin.”

I replace the receiver and Eliza looks at me through wide eyes. “You really are an arrogant prick.”

“Excuse me.”

“Why couldn’t you go and ask nicely, like any normal person would?”

“Because I pay my staff well above the odds to do it for me and I won’t apologize for that. They know their place.”

“Like me.” She barks back and I nod, narrowing my eyes so she is in no doubt of that.

“As my wife, you will bow to my wishes.”

“Fuck you.” She growls and I laugh out loud. “The fact you will want to will be interesting.”

“I won’t.”

Taking her hand, I squeeze it gently and raise it to my lips, catching her off guard as she openly stares in amazement. “I will enjoy teaching you the pleasures of my world, Eliza. You believe to be controlled is a bad thing. That pleasing your husband goes against your own wishes. The reality is very different to that and when you understand how amazing that life will be, I’m guessing you will crave pleasing me. Delight it in even because I will be the best husband you could ever wish for.”

“Is that so?” She smiles, and it hits me hard in the heart because when Eliza smiles, it’s as if the sun comes out. She is such a beautiful woman. Her long, dark hair, curling to her shoulders in large bouncing waves. Her astonishing green eyes that flash when she shows emotion and her smooth, pale white skin that frames her ruby red lips. She is a goddess deserving of worship and I will take great pleasure in demonstrating how well I can treat a woman.

“I believe you, Malik, except for one thing.”

“Which is?”

“You would cast me aside as soon as something better came along.”

“By taking another wife, I’m guessing.” I bite back a grin as I remember my harsh words.

“How can you love someone if you are prepared to love another? It doesn’t make sense to me. It’s wrong on every level.” Eliza fixes me with a puzzled expression, and I shrug.

“As I said before, Angel, you have a lot to learn. When we reach my home, you will find many wives living there.”

“Are you kidding me? You’re already married.”

The indignation on her face causes me to laugh out loud. “Not mine. My father, my uncle and my brothers.”

“You have a large family, then.”

“I do and we all live in one huge residence and, for the most part, get along.”

“I would hate that.” She shakes her head, and her expression makes me laugh.
