“Boss.”

His deep voice reassures me because of all my men, Pasquale is the one I rely on and trust the most.

“We need to talk. Meet me in my apartment.”

I cut the call before he can answer and continue to stand by the window, watching the activity outside. Cops, the sheriff and possibly the feds are swarming around my home and grounds and there is nothing I can do about that. They will need to run their investigation and I’m convinced that a word in the right ear will make it all go away, but whoever caused this will not be so lucky.

A gentle tap on the door causes me to bark, “Come in.”

As Pasquale enters the room, I turn and regard him with a hooded expression.

“What can you tell me?”

He will have run his own operation and he sighs, dropping onto the couch at the jerk of my thumb.

“We watched the footage and saw the senator’s car leave. Our lookout had eyes on it until it turned the corner, which is apparently where it was ambushed, and they were taken out.”

“Any indication of who ordered the hit?”

“None.” Pasquale sighs heavily. “I’ve called in a few favors and asked our neighbors security to check their cameras. I’ve also called in a few of our men off the street to dig deep and get information by any means necessary. If someone does know and they’re not far away, they had better be hiding well because we’re sweeping this town for information and should have some intelligence by morning.”

“It’s a start, but I want to discover every fucking detail of the senator’s life. His friends, colleagues and family. I want to know how he likes his eggs for breakfast, and I want it all yesterday. Whoever took him out either had a grudge against Senator Billings, or me and I want to rule out the first one before I deal with the next. If I am a target, they had better start running because I am pissed and spoiling to break a few souls over this.”

Pasquale nods and as his phone rings, I nod, giving him permission to accept the call. After a few seconds, he says brusquely, “I’m on my way.”

He glances up and excitement has sparked in his eyes, which immediately captures my attention and my glass hovers against my lips as he says pleasantly, “Perhaps we should start our interrogations a little closer to home.”

“Meaning?”

“Eddie.”

I raise my eyes as he shakes his head in disgust. “It turns out Eddie didn’t just neglect to inform you Flora Corlietti was on the guest list.”

“I’m listening.”

“It appears that he was responsible for setting it all up in the first place.”

“How do you know?”

“Desdemona Gray was a contact in his phone and when we checked it out, there were a few interesting texts that signed his death warrant.”

He rolls his eyes. “Dumb fucking amateur. It turns out Eddie was fucking Desdemona along with half of Vegas and ‘suggested’ she send her young assistant on a date to hell with the slimy senator.”

“Why would he suggest that, I wonder?”

My mind is racing because all my men are aware the Corlietti name is like waving a fucking red flag in my face and Pasquale says grimly, “I’m guessing you will need to ask the man himself that information.”

The surge of adrenalin that races through my veins delights me more than any orgasm. I’ve always been a twisted bastard and my love for my job even scares me sometimes. Pain, violence and torture are the tools of my trade, and I wield them well. Eddie is about to discover that first hand, so I set my glass down and a sense of peace descends over me as I prepare to do something I’m insanely good at.

They don’t call me the enforcer for nothing and most men in my position would delegate this job to a man lower down the ranks, but I lead by example, something Eddie is about to experience, and I can’t wait to get started.

Two hourslater and my body is streaked with Eddie’s blood. I’m naked from the waist up because blood on my designer suits is unacceptable.

Pasquale is leaning against the stone walls, and I can sense his interest even now and it amuses me to think of the house crawling with cops, all happily unaware of the crimes happening around them.

Eddie’s groans will only be heard by us because this chamber is soundproofed and hidden from even the keenest eye. Nobody knows it’s here and even if they stumbled across it, it would alert us in plenty of time, enabling the security measures to snap into place, ensuring our privacy.
