“It fits perfectly with our plan. Three strikes and they are out. We just need to discover the third.”

Domenico pours another coffee and appears thoughtful, and we wait for him to speak while he stares into the mug as if the answer lies there.

Then he says roughly, “I see your point. We stick with our plan, and I’ll pass this one to Matteo. He’s in a good position to uncover the facts about the Kensingtons and use them to our advantage. We don’t have long before the will is read and so far, two out of three ain’t bad.”

He glances across at me and smiles, making me catch my breath at the beauty in his face as it relaxes a little. If anything, I am mesmerized by Domenico Ortega and can understand why Diana fell so hard for Mario. I understand the attraction because this man could do what the hell he likes with me and I would crave every delicious second of it.

As his velvet obsidian eyes burn deep into my soul, I will do anything to help him, even if it means destroying the one remaining person in the world who shares my blood.

CHAPTER20

DOM

Flora has given us a gift and before we set off for the bank, I dash out a text to Matteo.

Discover everything you can about Abigail Kensington. She is the person who will bring Mario down. Her father is Jared Kensington, a Washington billionaire. They are friends of the Bachinis. Remember, we don’t have long.

He replies almost immediately.

Consider it done.

Sighing, I pocket my phone and glare at my fellow diners.

“Come. We must continue with our plan.”

Pasquale nods and heads off to ready the cars and I can tell Flora has many questions that she’s afraid to voice, probably because I told her never to speak unless asked.

I say roughly, “This is our plan.”

She starts and peers at me with a hint of worry in her beautiful eyes and I push away any softness inside me and say gruffly, “We are heading to the bank. I have Diana’s account details and ID.”

“But…” she makes to speak, and my dark glare makes her stop mid-sentence.

“Today you are Diana Corlietti. You will walk into the City Bank and demand to close your account. I have the new account number and details in a folder Pasquale has arranged. We will transfer the money that she stole from my father’s account the day he died.”

Flora appears shocked and whispers, “How do you know?”

“I know everything, Flora, and you would be wise to remember that.”

I lean forward and stare into her eyes with a ferocity that makes her skin pale.

“The day my father died, my brother Leonardo became Don Ortega. He received documents that contained everything he needed, and he wasted no time in checking the resources. It appeared that my father’s accounts were robbed earlier that day and all the money was gone. He discovered the money had been transferred to his widow, which was not against the law because she had joint control of his accounts.”

I snarl. “That fucking bitch took our inheritance and we are taking it right back. We must act fast before she moves it again and so you will impersonate her and leave the bitch penniless.”

“What if we’re caught?” Flora says nervously and I snap. “Play your part well and nobody will find out.”

I lean in and say harshly, “This is your opportunity to get your revenge. Take everything from your sister of any value to her and leave us to deal with the rest.”

“OK.” She faces me with a bravery that impresses me and as she glances my way, I see a lot of Diana in her expression. There is a fierceness inside her telling me she will see this through, and I relax knowing she won’t let me down.

I stand and reach for her hand, loving how it closes around mine as if it belongs there.

“Remember…” I say gruffly. “You are my father’s widow, and I am your protection. They won’t question that, and if Diana wants her money back, she will need to come through me first.”

We head through my mansion and out into the courtyard where three black SUVs are waiting. The door to the middle one is open, and a soldier stands guarding it, who nods reverently, “Sir.”

I nod and guide Flora into the car first before stepping in beside her. Then, as the door slams, the car in front moves off, closely followed by the rest of us. This is how we travel. As a pack, and I’m guessing none of this is new to Flora Corlietti. She was born into this life and knows how it works, which saves for lengthy explanations for the uninitiated.
