He doesn’t waste time with pleasantries and says in a voice etched in steel,

“There’s an abandoned house one hour from you. Hadleigh Hall. You won’t find it on any Sat Nav, or any google search though, so I’m sending you the GPS. Follow that and it will take you there.”

I don’t even know how he discovers this shit, but I trust him with my life, despite the fact we turned on one another after Diana seduced every one of us.

“It turns out your detective was the errand boy of a secret society that uses the place for weird rituals and depraved shit.”

The conversation I had with Desdemona comes back to bite me and I curse my stupidity in not paying closer attention to that.

“Do you know who’s involved?”

“No. I’m working on it but I’m guessing whoever it is, has ties with our enemies. I’m guessing that’s why they have Flora now.”

“What about security? Do I need to go in mob handed?”

My mind is already preparing my battle plan and Matteo snarls,“What do you think? We’re not dealing with amateurs. They already have three bodies all pointing their fingers at your door, and I’m guessing that number is far greater. You must protect yourself and your family because these men are dangerous, Dom.”

“Thanks bro.” There’s a small pause before he says in a softer tone.

“I’m always here for you, you know that, right?”

“Same.” I cut the call because my heart is doing some weird shit right now and I’m conscious of Pasquale regarding me curiously, waiting for the plan.

Without even glancing at him, I say icily, “Prepare for war, Pasquale. You have ten minutes.”

He nods and as he calls the guard house, I hear him issuing orders like bullets and as we sweep around the driveway of the mansion and head back the way we came, I watch my soldiers pouring from my home into the heavily armored SUVs we use, tooled up with machine guns and God only knows what else.

In one hour’s time, Hadleigh Hall will be a smoldering pile of ash and if she’s there, Flora will be once again by my side.

CHAPTER39

FLORA

Iam so cold. There are no sheets or even any drapes I can pull down to cover my naked body. There is nothing and I curl up in a ball on the bare mattress in the vain hope there is any heat left inside me to take the chill away.

He’s here.

That thought alone causes me to shiver uncontrollably because Mario’s voice burns in my brain and drives intense fear through my soul. They found me and there will be no escaping this time and death is looking like a mighty fine proposition, yet all I can think about is Dom. If anything, I’m glad he’s locked up because at least he will be protected. I’ve known Mario and Diana too long and know they fight dirty, and I’m guessing his arrest had a lot to do with them.

I jump when the lock is turned in my prison cell and I’m afraid to look at who is on the other end.

Then her voice washes through me like a poisoned river. “Flora.”

I jump from the bed as a defense and face my sister, regarding me with interest from the door she closed behind her.

“This is just like old times, huh?”

Her giggle grates on my frayed nerves and I hiss, “Let me go you fucking mad bitch.” She shakes her head and says with disappointment. “Is that any way to greet your loving sister who has only ever had your best interests at heart?”

“Best interests.” I bark out a harsh laugh. “The only interests you’ve ever had are your own. You’re not my sister, and I doubt you even care about that. I’m merely someone else to manipulate in your desperate need to keep Mario interested.”

“Is that what you think?” She laughs as if she’s watching a fucking comedy show.

“Oh, Flora, you have never understood the deep love Mario and I share.”

“Deep love.” This time, I laugh out loud. “Don’t make me laugh. You may love him, but he definitely doesn’t love you.”

For the first time, I detect a hint of uncertainty in Diana’s eyes, and she hisses, “You know nothing about our relationship.”
