“I woke up alone.”

“Not by choice,” Fletch assured her. “I had some things to take care of. I was hoping you’d still be in bed when I got back. I see you got the clothes Em put together for you. Milo’s in town now, picking up some more stuff for you. He’ll drop it at the cabin when he gets back.”

“Thank you,” she whispered then pushed against his chest.

Fletch reluctantly let her slip out of his arms.

“Whose blood is on you?”

He glanced down and noted the flecks staining his shirt. He should have paid more attention.

“I was interrogating.”

She nodded as if she’d already suspected that answer.

“Did you find any more locations?”

“Not yet.” He gave her a questioning look.

“Muriel let me know about the other rescue attempts when she brought me food and clothes. She also pointed me in the direction to find you. Why are they being kept close to the house? Are the Holloways afraid of another attack?”

“No,” Fletch answered. “The hunters know better than to attack on Holloway land.”

“Why?”

“The one time they did, their torture doctor was taken.”

“Talbot,” she murmured. “I’m not staying a prisoner in that house.”

He saw the fire in her eyes and couldn’t hold back his grin. Even when her gaze narrowed on him.

“No, you won’t. In fact, since you’re up and around, I’ll show you our cabin. We can move out of the lodge today.”

“That sounds great, but it wasn’t what I was referring to.”

“You can go wherever you want as long as I’m with you. I’ll try not to suffocate you with my need to keep you close.”

“I don’t mind being close to you, mate. As long as I go where you go, I’m good.”

“Always,” he vowed. “Now, let me show you the cabin.”

He took out his phone while they walked.

“I’ll shoot Milo a text and tell him to grab our stuff at the main lodge when he gets back. That way he can just bring everything to our cabin. Though we’ll probably head to the main lodge for dinner if you’re up to it.”

“If I asked you to leave with me, would you?”

Her question came out of nowhere and had him stopping in his tracks while he stared at her.

“Where do you want to go?”

“Home. I thought I wanted to search for my sister first, but I need to know if she has a home to return to. I need to know if either of my parents or any of my brothers survived. Then we can look for Hadley. Will you do that for me?”

“Yes. Give me a few days to make arrangements, then we’ll head out. Milo will want to go with us.”

“He’s your brother,” she said as if that explained everything, and maybe, it did. “Besides, I like him.”

Fletch grinned. “He likes you, too.”
