“Daniela, this is my cousin Spencer. He’ll be working with us for the next few days. Spencer, this is Daniela,” he says and Spencer reaches out to shake my hand.

“Pleasure,” he says.

“Nice to meet you,” I reply.

There is a strong resemblance between these two men. They both have thick, black hair and deep green eyes. Even the shape of their faces is similar but Dex is much bigger and a bit older than his cousin. I’m about to walk away when I hear Spencer say, “Wow, Dex, it’s your pop.”

I spin around just in time to see Dex’s father approaching the bar. I wish I could shrink myself and slip away without him noticing but he’s made eye contact with both Dex and me so I stand firm and wait to see what he has to say to us.

“Declan, we were surprised to see you today and, frankly, Caroline is very upset that you didn’t inform her that her daughter was here with you,” he tells Dex.

“Well, frankly, Pop, Daniela is an adult and if she wanted her mother to know that she was here I expect that she would have told her. Why should you or I be involved in their affairs?” Dex replies.

“Declan, look, I just want peace in my house and if Caroline is upset about this, well, there is no peace when Caroline is upset. She just wants you two to come by the house for dinner. Can you do that? Let them mend up their fences and then go on about your life,” his father says and I can see that he’s a bit desperate. It’s obvious that my mother put him up to this.

Dex looks at me and I nod. I don’t want to do it but I also don’t want to be the cause of any further friction between Dex and his dad.

“Are you sure, Clover?” Dex asks me.

“Of course, thank you for the invitation Mr. Delany,” I tell them.

“Sunday after the parade then?” his father asks.

“Sure, pop. Sunday after the parade,” Dex replies.

Mr. Delaney heads back to the door. I watch as he pauses in the entry and looks at the old photographs hanging on the wall. They’re photos of his family members going back for generations working in this very pub and I wonder how he could have ever considered selling this piece of his family’s history but if he was a sentimental man he’d be very disappointed with my mother.

It’s a busy night all the way to close and everyone is in a festive mood. I watch as Dex and Spencer belt out a tune along with several patrons who are standing by the bar. I’ve not seen this side of him before. He’s almost always brooding when I’m out on the floor and it’s nice to see him let his guard down for a change. His smile is captivating and I can’t help but beam when I see it. He turns and makes eye contact with me and gives me a wink that makes my pulse quicken. I can’t wait to be back in his arms.

There is a group of young women assembled at the bar. By the way they’re dressed, I don’t think they’re local and I watch as they size up Dex and Spencer while their backs are turned to them. Dex approaches them to take their drink order and one of the girls arches her back sticking her chest out. She’s putting on a show for him and I lean against the wall to watch. All three girls are smiling and laughing and Dex is doing his best to remain composed. I feel a twitch of anger as the girl in the middle puts her hand on his and whispers something in his ear and I wait anxiously to see what he’s going to do. He calls Spencer over and puts his arm around him saying something to the girls. Spencer grins and laughs and Dex pats him on the back and walks away leaving him engaged in conversation with the three women.

He finds me on the floor and comes over. Before I can speak he kisses me and says, “I saw you brooding and thought a kiss would make you feel better.”

“What was going on over there?” I ask him.

“Oh, drunk, horny American girls out looking to ride a big Irish stallion,” he grins.

“And what did you tell them?” I ask.

“I told them that I already have the sexiest woman alive but my cousin Spencer is single,” he replies.

We close for the night and Dex surprises me by asking me to come home with him. He hasn’t spent a night there since we met but I’m curious to see where he calls home so I rush upstairs to pack a bag.

We drive through the business district and into a more rural community speckled with cottages separated by large spans of land. Dex slows the car and pulls into the driveway of an adorable two-story stone house and kills the engine.

“This is home sweet home,” he tells me. He gets out of the car and comes to my side to open my door. He collects my bag from the back seat and escorts me by the arm to the front door. We step inside and I wait for him to turn on the lights. I don’t know what I expected but when the lights come on I see that the décor is very feminine with floral wall coverings and petite furnishings. There’s even a corner hutch filled with Irish porcelain. He sees my confusion and says, “This was my ma’s place before she passed.”

My heart sinks in my chest. I didn’t know that his mother was gone and I embrace him and kiss his cheek. He feels my cool skin on his face and says, “It’s cold in here. I’ll light a fire,” and rushes to the fireplace before I can respond. When the fire is roaring he tells me to sit on the white fur rug and goes to the kitchen to get a bottle of wine and two glasses.

We sit by the fire and sip our wine and it doesn’t take long for my head to get a bit foggy. I stretch out on the fur and Dex removes my shoes for me. “Are you warm enough?” he asks me.

“Maybe a little too warm,” I reply.

“You know this rug feels great on bare skin. Maybe you should take off your clothes and try it,” he grins.

“Maybe you should take my clothes off,” I answer and he kneels beside me and unzips my pants. He pulls them off slowly then glides his hand up my leg, slips his fingers inside the waistband of my panties, and removes them as well. “That’s a pretty little kitten,” he tells me and licks his way back up my leg stopping to lay gentle kisses on my pussy. He lifts his head and says, “Now, let’s see those gorgeous tits.” He removes my tee shirt and bra and licks each of my nipples. “How does that rug feel on your ass?” he asks.

“So good,” I reply.
