“No idea, but I’m it.” She got up and took her plate to the sink. She rinsed it quickly and then loaded it in the dishwasher. “I’m gonna take a shower and do some laundry. You have anything you need me to throw in?”

I shook my head.

“Thanks for dinner,” she said, traipsing toward the bedroom.

I waited until the shower was running before speaking. “Not cool.”

“What?” he asked, getting up off the couch.

I dogged his heels. “Asking Waverly how she’d feel if you lived here.”

“I was trying to prove a point. And I think I’ve proven it.” He scooped up the empty containers and dropped them into the garbage. “I’ll take this out for you so it doesn’t smell like fish, and then I’m gonna head out.”

“Leaving so we don’t fight?”

“There’s nothing to fight about,” he said with a grin. “You can be annoyed if you want, but there’s not really a reason to be.”

I sighed.

Duke grabbed the bag of trash and set it by the door. He quickly laced up his boots, made sure he had his belongings, and then picked up the garbage again.

“So tomorrow we tell Savage, yeah?”

I nodded. “Yeah. Where do you want to do it? Shelly’s?”

“Might as well,” he said. “It won’t matter where we tell him, I still expect a punch to the face.”

He leaned in to kiss my lips, but I covered my mouth to protect him. “Fish breath.”

“I’ll risk it.”

I slowly lowered my hand. He pecked my lips and then pulled back. “It’s gonna be okay. However he reacts, we’ll deal. Okay?”

I nodded.

“I’ll see you tomorrow.”

I locked up after he left and then went to the bathroom and waited for Waverly to tell me to come in.

“Can I brush my teeth?” I asked her.

“Sure.”

“So you like sushi,” I said lamely.

“Apparently. Did you guys have fun tonight? It looked like you had fun. Cuddling all cute and stuff.”

I thought about earlier, our sex on the couch, how easy it was with him. How he knew my body in ways I needed a man to know.

“Yeah, we had fun.” I squirted toothpaste onto my toothbrush. “We’re telling Savage tomorrow.”

“Oh yeah?”

“Yeah.”

“You sound nervous.”

“I am nervous.”
