He let his arms drop and he pulled back just enough to stare into my eyes.

“The guys you and Duke…” I took a deep breath. “You showed them no mercy, right?”

“None,” he assured me. He turned his attention to Duke and walked to him, exchanged a few words I couldn’t hear and then Savage slapped Duke on the back. Savage went to the van and climbed into the passenger side.

The front door of the clubhouse opened and Slash came down the stairs. “Willa,” he said, his tone grave.

“Hi, Slash.”

He paused for a moment and then said, “Ah, fuck it.” Slash hugged me. It wasn’t long, but it was tight and appreciated. Slash wasn’t one for showing emotion unless it was for his wife, so the gesture was unusual.

“Take our room,” he said, pulling back. “Sheets have been changed, the room has been cleaned, and it’s got a private bathroom.”

“You sure?” I asked him.

“Yes. Brooklyn would want it that way.”

“Okay, thanks.”

Slash gave Duke a chin nod and then went to the truck.

I glanced at Sailor, whose face was slack with shock. “You okay?”

“Yeah.” She nodded. “Yeah, I’m okay. Just…”

“What?” I prodded.

“All these bikers are really hot.”

Despite the situation, I let out a laugh. “Yeah, they are.”

Sailor realized that Duke was still standing next to us. She ducked her head in embarrassment. “Sorry, I’m so tired my filter is completely gone.”

“That’s okay,” Duke assured her. “We like hearing that we’re hot.”

We walked inside and Doc was sitting on the couch. She immediately stood up as we entered.

“Hey, Doc,” I greeted in exhaustion.

“That’sDoc?” Sailor asked, her mouth agape.

“You must be Sailor,” Doc said with a smile.

Sailor nodded.

“Doc is the best Doc there is,” I said. “She delivered a baby at her own wedding.”

“You did that?” Sailor asked.

“I did,” Doc said with a winsome smile.

“In her wedding dress,” I added.

“I can tell you the story if you want, while I check you out. Is that okay?” Doc asked her.

Sailor instantly moved closer to me.

Doc’s expression softened. “I know you’ve been through a lot, but all I want to do is make sure you’re okay. In order to do that, I need to take a little blood and see if the drug they gave you is still in your system. That’s all.”
