“The price is too high,” I joked.

“Savage and I are bringing pizza over to your new place tonight,” Duke said to Waverly, wrapping his arm around her neck. “Any requests?”

“Pineapple and ham.”

“Ew. No,” I said.

“One purist pepperoni and the other adventurous. Got it,” Duke said.

“I’m the fun sister,” Waverly said.

She turned back around and marched up the stairs.

Duke opened his mouth to say something and I said, “Don’t. Just don’t.”

Chapter6

“We get to live here?”Waverly asked.

“Yes.”

“Seriously?”

“Seriously. You’ve been over here before.”

“Yeah, but this was Brooklyn’s place.” Waverly’s mouth was agog as she whirled around the living room. She bumped into the couch that had once belonged in the clubhouse. “This is way nicer than the RV—which, let’s face it, isn’t hard to beat.”

“It’s also nicer than that motel we had to stay in for two weeks.”

“Oh, I forgot about that,” Waverly said.

Good. It means she doesn’t remember the roaches.

“You get your own room,” I said.

“No.”

I nodded. “You do.”

“Which one do I get?” she asked.

“Which ever one you want,” I said, my throat constricting with emotion.

“No fighting over the bigger room?”

I smiled. “No.”

“No Rock Paper Scissors?”

“Nope.”

She launched herself at me. “You really love me, don’t you?”

“More than anything.” I patted her. “More than anything.”

Waverly pulled away and grabbed my hand, dragging me in the direction of the bedrooms, which were dramatically different sizes.

“I don’t feel right about taking the bigger bedroom,” she said quietly. “You’re going to need a desk to work.”
