“I’m okay,” I said.

“Are you lying?” Jazz demanded.

“I’m okay,” I repeated, reaching out to grasp her hand. “And getting better every day. All right?”

Brielle took my other hand and gave it a squeeze. “All right.”

There was a knock on the door and a moment later an attendant walked in, carrying a garment bag.

“What’s that?” I asked her.

She smiled. “Phase two.”

Chapter44

Two hourslater I was wearing a wedding dress I’d borrowed from Joni. It fit me perfectly, and I smoothed a hand down the skirt as I was being escorted to the limousine outside the spa. The driver opened the door for me and waited for me to climb in.

Brooklyn, Jazz, and Brielle smiled as they watched me get in.

“Where am I going?” I asked them.

“It’s a surprise,” Brooklyn said.

“My sister?” I pressed. “I can’t get married without my sister.”

“You won’t get married without your sister,” Brooklyn assured me.

“Savage?” I added.

“Not him either,” Brielle said. “Trust us. Enjoy the limousine ride, and everything that comes after it.”

“She means, please have sex in the limo after the ceremony,” Jazz quipped.

The driver looked at her and lifted his brows.

“Oh please, don’t be a prude.” Jazz rolled her eyes. “Just raise the partition.”

I’d never been inside a limousine, even though I’d gone to school with kids who rented them for prom. I wasn’t from that side of the tracks, and it showed. As I slid across the smooth leather, I thought of my prom night. Savage, Duke and I had scored some beers and had drunk them after sneaking through the barricade to the top of the town water tower.

“There’s a bottle of champagne pre-chilled for you,” the driver said after he’d climbed into his seat, ready to drive us away.

“Thank you,” I murmured. “Will you tell me where we’re going?”

“As your friend said, it’s a surprise.”

I reached for my purse and found my cell phone. I called Duke, who answered immediately.

“Hey.”

“Hey?” I repeated. “That’s how you greet me on my wedding day?”

“It’s Willa,” Duke said to someone. “And she’s pissed.”

“I’m not pissed,” I snapped. “I’m confused and I don’t like to be surprised with an impromptu wedding.”

The partition between me and the driver began to rise, the sound of an electric motor filling the cabin.

With a sigh, I tried to check my attitude.
